GAI – ASSOCIATION FOR THE CIRCUIT OF THE YOUNG ITALIAN ARTISTS

TheAssociation for the Circuit of the Young Italian Artists is an organization that includes 33 localAdministrationsto date (Municipalities, Provinces and Regions) with the aim of supporting young artists through activities of training, promotion and research. The GAI network, established in 1989, has adopted a new legal form to better co-ordinate national projects while raising new resources through the partnership with public and private corporations.

The Association’s objective is to provide information services and records on activities and events, organise trainings and offer promotional opportunities for young artists engaged in the fields of creativity, arts and show business. The Association promotes permanent or temporary initiatives to facilitate the circulation of information and events, on a national and international level, stimulating the interest of the market in the work of young artists.

In 2001 the Circuit of the Young Italian Artists launched the website , one of the most popular in its kind. The website, that offers opportunities, information and resources for the lovers of arts and the show business, is a platform for discussions, exchanges and sharing.

The Association has a Nationaldatabase updated on a regular basis providing over 13.000 files of young artists in the various fields or arts. In addition, GAI is also responsible for the publication of its catalogues that are distributed on the whole Italian territory.

For those initiatives promoted by individual institutions or companies that have a partnership with GAI, selections and announcements of artists from the National territory are often advertised through the membership network.

GAI, in agreement with the MINISTRY OF CULTURAL HERITAGE AND ACTIVITIES AND TOURISM - General Directorate for Contemporary Art and Architecture and Urban Suburbs - General Directorate for Performance - General Directorate for Museums and GAI - Association for the Circuit of Young Italian Artistsfor the years 2015 – 2016 carries out national and international initiatives in the framework of the project DE.MO. supporting new design for art shop and bookshop and for international mobility of young Italian artists: 1) Movin'Up, a support programme aiming at developing international mobility of young Italian artist, with the allocation of an annual grant; 2) DAB, a contest organized in partnership with the Municipality of Modena for the creation of art and design objects for the artshops and bookshops of museums as part of the new product line GAI to be sold in Italian museums. In the framework of this partnership, in November 2014 in Milan took place the International Forum on Mobility of young artists in the world “Boarding Pass”, an official event on the agenda of the Italian Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

With reference to artistic mobility and international networks, GAI is the Italian coordinator of Pépinières Européennes pour Jeunes Artistes and is a member of BJCEM - Biennaledes jeunes créateurs de l’Europe et de la Méditerranée, besides being also partner of international projects such as Transartists and Culture Action Europe for a few European projects.

For the years 2013-2015 GAI is a technical partner for the project Artistic residences in Basilicata, promoted by Regione Basilicata and funded by the Department for Youth of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, supported by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism.

Moreover, GAI together with 18 local administrations is working on an important three-year pilot project for the regeneration of urban spaces on cultural, economic, social and city planning aspects, called Creative regeneration – ideas and projects of young artists and the city.

The 2014 agenda featured prominently a two-part event taking place in Naples in September: REMIXING CITIES – Urban ReGeneration and Independent Centres of Cultural Production organized by GAI – Association for the Circuit of the Young Italian Artists and Association ICS – Innovation Culture Society co-produced by Universal Forum of Cultures – Naples and Campania and the collaboration of the Municipalities of Reggio Emilia, Ferrara and Padua.
