ESMS SOCCER RULES

The Game:A soccer match during ESMS P.E.is contested by two teams of 5-7 players and each team has a designated goal keeper (a regular match is played with 11 players). The object of the game is to score by propelling the ball completely across the goal line. The game is begun by a kickoff from the center of the field. The game is restarted in a similar fashion after each goal.Once play has been, each team attempts to gain possession, and through planned and creative combinations of fundamental skills (passing, shooting, heading, trapping, dribbling, tackling and marking) attempts to place the ball in the back of the opponent's net.

Fouls come in two categories:

Indirect Kick Fouls: Indirect means that a player may not score directly from the kick. Two players have to contact the ball for a goal to be scored. Indirect fouls are: high kicking, dangerous play, and obstruction (blocking an opponent from getting to the ball when you are not playing the ball.

Direct Kick Fouls: A player may score directly from the kick. Direct kick fouls are: charging dangerously, tripping, kicking an opponent, hand balls, jumping into another player, striking an opponent.

ANY FOUL MAY RESULT IN THE LOSS OF PARTICIPATION POINTS.

There is no offside in the games during ESMS P.E.

Only the goal keeper may use their hands.

Each team must play man to man defense.

Corner Kick: A restart after the ball crosses the opponent's goal line when last touched by the opponent.

Punt: To hold the ball in the hands, drop it and kick it before it touches the ground. This is done only by the goal keeper who may also throw the ball instead of punting it.

Goal Kick: When the offensive team kicks the ball out of bounds over the end line but doesn't go into the goal. Defensive team places the ball in goal area and (usually goalie) takes a kick

Throw-in: to put he ball in play from the touchline (side line) by a two-hand overhead throw. We may use“kick in” at the teacher’s discretion.

Trapping: Technique used to gain possession and control of the ball using foot, thigh, or chest.

A loss of participation points may occur for the following: not playing man to man defense, standing next to the goal keeper and talking to them, inappropriate language, and any flagrant foul If you are not Kind, Polite, and Respectful you will be sent to the dugout and lose ALL participation points for the day.
