Faith Community Nurse Meeting

March 11, 2015 at 9 am at Centracare St. Cloud, Minnesota

Meeting opened with prayer honoring God’s manifestation.

Five requests have been sent out asking to assist funding of June workshop. One donation of $100.00 dollars received from Knights of Columbus form St. Anthony’s #5548

Unanimous vote for Rosemary Weiserfor VP & has accepted the Vice President role and will work with Ellen. Thank you Rosemary.

Members shared activities and events in their churches. St. Francis of Xavier held classes for yoga and nutrition, and have upcoming event of the Traveling Health Screening Fair. Other occurrences were the hiring of a Pastoral Minister at Sacred Heart, Greg Spofford and a dental screening class. The creation of 300 crosses was a fund raiser at Monticello for Church of the Week and new vehicles. AED training at St. Joseph’s, Mobile mammograms at St. Peter’s planned. St. Anthony’s formed a health planning team including several health care professionals to assess the needs and create programs for their church members, Karleen; nurse from Monticello will be going to Guatemala as part of a medical mission team called HELP. Psalm 71 was mentioned as a passage for those living long in this world. There are requests out for advanced directive nurse volunteers to serve at the Health Care Directive Events in April and May in St. Cloud, Melrose, Paynesville, and Monticello. You can contact Nola Varilek at or 320-251-2700 ext. 28762. Also on Healthcare News & Events of 3.15.2015.

There will be a POLST facilitator class on Tuesday May 6, 2015. This is suggested for those with Advanced Directive Training if you choose to take the decision making to the next step. Contact Lynn MacKenzie at Light the Legacy to register. See above website.

Catherine Towne, MA student, who did the SWOT exercise at the last meeting to review our committee work, shared the results. The Central MN Parish Nurse Ministry Committee will now review and set goals.

A representative from Allina came to the meeting and shared information about how to establish an AED service in your church. Susie Osaki-Holmes at CentraCare can also assist in this process. Katie shared there are grant dollars for the equipment and batteries, the website is available to pull up guidelines to complete and establish protocol in your church, that there is a training DVD available for bystander CPR training, and that she is available to come and work with your group to set up 911 connections and walk through steps to make this process work.
