INSIGHT 2007

Welcome to the University of Salford and INSIGHT 2007. We hope that you have an enjoyable stay with us and that you will learn something about being an engineer and a scientist as well as University life in general.

The members of the organising committee are all lecturers in the University and represent different Engineering and Science Disciplines. They will be available throughout the week to answer questions and deal with any problems that you may have. All lectures will be held in Room G50 of the NewtonBuilding unless otherwise stated.

Messages will be posted on the notice board in the Second Floor Concourse of the NewtonBuilding. Please check regularly to see if there are any messages for you.

The course is informal and casual dress will be suitable but you may like to bring a smart outfit for the theatre visit and/or end of course dinner. Smart trousers (NO JEANS) and sensible footwear (no trainers, no sandals) for the industrial visit would be advisable. If you asked for Civil Engineering project, you may have the chance to visit a construction site and will be required to wear safety boots which are usually in larger sizes. You are required to bring 3 pairs of socks to wear under the boots.

You will be staying in the Horlock Court student accommodation. In each house there are twelve bedrooms, one kitchen, two showers and two toilets. You will be staying in your own bedroom with a wash hand basin. There is no need to bring your own bedding. A towel is provided in each room but bringing your own towels is advisable. The girls usually prepare and have breakfast in the houses where things like cereal, bread, jam, butter, juice, etc are provided. The University also provides lunches and dinners, all paid for by the University.

It would be handy to bring your mobile phone or a phone card with you since most of the telephone boxes in Horlock Court use them. Alternatively you can purchase a phone card from the University shop during the course.

A swimming pool is available at the University’s Sports Centre if you would like to bring a swimming costume with you. Student’s rate is £3.00 / session.

A website for Insight at Salford is being updated ( you should be able to view this year’s programme, images from previous courses and other information.

If you have any queries regarding the course or the programme contact Dr Haifa Takruri-Rizk on 016l295-3139, email: or Rae Bezer on 0161 295 4983, email: .
