Events and Programming Officer

You will plan and lead the delivery of special events (such as outdoor theatre, Easter activities, Harvest Festival and Christmas), as well asthe day-to-day operations of the visitor experience and offer at Sacrewell. You will enable a broad range of visitors to have outstanding and inspirational experiences through the consistent quality of our events and programmed activities. You will be part of a broader team responsible for delivering great service to visitors, promoting good communication across the site and joined up service provision. You may lead a small number of seasonal staff and volunteers and work proactively alongside colleagues elsewhere in the property to deliver an engaging visitor experience and promotion of agricultural education.

WHAT YOU’LL DELIVER:

It’s about ensuring our visitors have a great experience: You’ll bring a creative spark to our events and daily activities, and you’ll have the experience to know how to plan so that everything happens effortlessly. Your role will lead on the development and delivery of our events, ensuring everything we do tells the story of Sacrewell.

It’s about financial performance: You’ll play a big part in delivering significant financial targets, maximising income and profitability. You will strive to be efficient and ensure cost effectiveness in all the work you do.

It’s about standards of presentation and developing the business: You will help to present, develop and improve how we tell the story of Sacrewell. You will ensure high standards of presentation across the property and may have delegated tasks within marketing. You will understand and help deliver the Sacrewell business plan.

It’s about great teamwork: You will supervise, train and mentor seasonal staff and volunteers, fostering a culture of good teamwork. You will assist in recruiting volunteers, enabling their involvement in the visitor experience.

It’s about working safely and securely: You will ensure that you and others comply with Sacrewell’s processes and procedures in order to minimise risk to the public, staff and volunteers.

It's about making the link to our agricultural education purpose: Your team will enthusiastically provide visitors with information on our agricultural work in order to

deepen understanding of the story of food and farming. You will maximise sales and income generation onsite for the benefit of our charitable cause.

SCALE and SCOPE OF THE ROLE:

Reports to: Visitor Operations Manager

Operating budget: @£30K; responsible for achieving £100K + income through events and programming activities in 2016 financial year.

Line management: High involvement in supervising seasonal staff ,volunteers and event contractors such as parking attendants and planning work of volunteer teams.

Area of impact: Supports the Visitor Operations Manager in delivering the visitor experience at Sacrewell, working with departments across the property to lead/support teams to deliver programming and events.

Nature of impact (internal): Develops and delivers (with support) the day-to-day programmingand one-off events, with delegated responsibility for certain activities. This is a hands-on operational role which may include duty management. Works within defined processes but uses own initiative in problem solving and in the organisation and prioritisation of work.

Nature of impact (external): Will manage productive partnerships with external stakeholders, including café franchisee.

Other relevant information:

Sacrewell has an ambitious vision and this role plays a key part in delivering the property’s strategic aims.

The post holder will be working in anactiveoutdoor environment in all weathers, and likely to be in close proximity to large animals, with occasional hands-on role planning, leading and delivering animal-focused activities. It may not be suitable for some allergy sufferers and applicants must be confident handling a variety of animals.

The post holder will be expected to work weekends and bank holidays on a rota. Though based at Sacrewell, occasionally they will attend meetings offsite. It is not expected that the post holder will take holiday during our busiest periods of lambing, Easter, August and December.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

Experience in event planning, ideally in the heritage or visitor attraction sector.

Experience of delivering creative daily programming. Experience of following complaints handling procedures.

Some supervisory, coaching and training experience is ideal. Good team worker.

Results focussed and proven self-motivator. Able to respond to varying pressures, difficult situations and complaints.

Knowledge and experience of managing budgets and financial systems. Experience of basic record keeping and cash handling.

Good people skills, enabling good working relationships with those in your team and across the property. Good interpersonal skills, able to deal with visitors in a variety of situations.

Experience of working with and supervising volunteers. Empathy with aims of the Sacrewell, with genuine interest and knowledge of the work we do.

Flexible customer focussed approach with experience in delivering high standards of customer service.

Experience of assessing and managing risk. Knowledge of relevant Health and Safety procedures. Knowledge of different access requirements and how to assist visitors.

Strong written and verbal communication skills. Able to develop skills in public presentation.

Able to work with own initiative without immediate assistance from manager.

Good IT skills (Microsoft Office)
