INTRODUCTION

WHAT:In this Lesson you will learn about theduties of a follower.

WHY:As a new cadet it is important to learn how tobe a true follower, willing and prepared to contribute your full effort towards the achievement of the goals.Every leader is a follower; therefore in order to be an effective leader, you must be able to be a willing and efficient follower.

WHERE:You will use this information whenever an order is given or a task is being executed.

STAGE 1 WHAT IS A LEADER AND FOLLOWER?

1.General:

To begin your leadership training in the Air Cadet program, you must start with the basics of following. It is important that you learn to be a good follower so that you learn to be a leader and eventually lead other cadets.The duties of a follower include many that are also theduties of a leader.

a.Leader:

A leader is anyone who directs and influencesothers in a manner

that gets their willing obedience,confidence, respect, and loyal

cooperation to accomplish a task.

b.Leadership:

Leadership is the art of influencing humanbehavior to accomplish a

task in the manner described by the leader.

c.Follower:

At this point, as a first year cadet, you are largelya follower. As a

follower, your leaders want you to be able toact in a certain way.

2.Duties of a follower:

There are many duties that a good follower must perform in their progression into a leader. We will discuss five of the most important in more detail.

a.Act with Honesty:

The first duty that you willhave, asa follower is tobe honest in your

actions with others.Your peers and superiors willnot respect you if

you are not honest with them.

b.Maintain Good Personal Habits and Manners:

As a cadet, you are inthe eyes of the public, especially when in

uniform. For thisreason, you must be on your best behavior at all

times

c.Support your Superiors:

Your senior cadets and officers have a wealth of experience to

draw from. When one of these people askyou to do something it is

for a reason. Try to accomplish the goal they set for you. Do not

argue and resist.

d.Cooperate with Others:

By working with the other members of your flight or squadron, you

are able to complete a great deal morethan you could by yourself.

e.Maintain a High Standard of Personal Hygiene and Appearance:

When interacting with fellow cadets, officers, and the public, a cadet’s personal hygiene must be of the highest standard.

1.What is a follower?

Answer:A follower is an individual who allows someone to give him direction and guidance so that a necessary task or goal can be achieved.

STAGE 2 OTHER DUTIES OF A FOLLOWER

1.The following are commonly accepted duties of a follower:

a.Know the job.

b.Correctly apply knowledge.

c.Tell the truth.

d.Admit mistakes.

e.Accept constructive criticism.

f.Learn from mistakes.

g.Accept constructive criticism.

h.Assume responsibility

j.Take action on your own.

k.Follow rules and orders.

CONFIRMATION STAGE 2

1.Why is it important for a follower to cooperate with others?

Answer:Cooperation between followers is necessaryto accomplish the goal set out by the leader. It is usually easier for a group acting together to complete a task than it is for individuals acting independently.

i.Any similar deportment, which detracts from a military appearance in the eyes of the public, is unacceptable for cadets in uniform.32 MINs / PERFORMANCE CHECK

Test Details:Each Cadet will be checked individually during the course to ensure the following of orders and the carrying out of duties as assigned.

1.The cadets will:a.Describe the duties of a follower and how they relate to the Air Cadet organization; and

b.Carry out duties as assigned.
