Technical Specification for

Elevator 2D/3D Door Protection

Elevator door protection system shall consist of separate two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) components. This system shall be designed to detect persons and/or objects located between the elevator cab and hoistway doors or persons and/or objects approaching the elevator cab door entrance. The 3D component of the system shall be designed to ignore stationary persons and/or objects in the entrance area.

The two-dimensional component shall be aCEDES cegard/Mini-CC infrared light curtain that:

  • has a minimum of 154 light beams that form a criss-cross pattern that is active at all times;
  • has a detection field of 70.8 inches (1.8 m) in or greater in height;
  • has an ambient light immunity of 100,000 Lux or greater;
  • has an operating range greater than or equal to 9.6 ft (3 m);
  • minimizes the amount of energy required for operation (e.g. when doors are closed);
  • compensates for misalignment, or when condensation is present, or when lenses are dirty;
  • has an enclosure that is not affected by damp environments (minimum IP 65 or equivalent);
  • has cables that are suitable for 20 million door movements;
  • has cables with a minimum length of 16 feet (5m); and
  • supports use of extension cables for longer cable runs.

The three-dimensional component shall be a CEDES IMS 100 sensorthat:

  • is either surface-mounted to, or flush-mounted in, the elevator cab transom;
  • utilizes a stainless steel housing when used in surface-mounted applications (optional);
  • projects a detection field in front of the elevator cab entrance of no less than 35.4 x 7.8 inches (900 x 200 mm) when mounted 6.56 feet (2m) above the sill in the center of the opening;
  • has a detection field that remainsa constant size, when active;
  • detects objects that approach the cab from all directions;
  • actively monitors the area in front of the cab until 6 inches (150mm) beforefull door closure;
  • goes into “sleep” mode when the elevator doors are detected during the closure process;
  • detects objects of different colors at the same distance(e.g. a person’s clothing);
  • has cables with a minimum length of 9.1 feet (2.8m); and
  • supports use of extension cables for longer cable runs.

The power supply(ies) used for both the two-dimensional and three-dimensional sensors aboveshall:

  • be rated 85 – 240 V AC, 50/60Hz operating voltage on incoming power minimum;
  • provide 24 V DC output power sufficient for the connected device(s);
  • provide normally open (NO) and normally closed (NC) relay contacts suitable for 125 V AC, 9 A and 30 V DC, 7A minimum.

All components must be certified by a nationally recognized testing laboratory (NRTL) as suitable for use in elevator systems.

The 2D light curtain shall be CEDES cegard/Mini-CC or equivalent.

The 3D sensor shall be CEDES IMS 100 or equivalent (stainless steel housing optional).

The power supply shall be the CEDES Switching Power Supply or Universal Power Supply, or equivalent.
