Essential activities to establish an EDI connection with Ford

If you would like to be connected to Ford using an EDI connection or change an existing connection, please follow the steps below:

  1. Configure your EDI system using the parameters provided on the next page
  1. Add your OFTP EDI information to the “Ford OFTP Parameters” (page 3) and complete the “Conventions and Prerequisites for the use of Ford OFTP” (page 4). If you complete this document electronically, then please return it via email to ,
  1. Schedule an appointment with the Ford EDI team to exchange EDI test data.
  1. If the EDI test is not successful, analyze your EDI setup and retest the connection; otherwise, contact the EDI implementation team and inform them that you are ready to exchange data.
  1. A date will be agreed for connection to the live (production) Ford OFTP system. Be advised that this process may take up to one week.

Conventions and prerequisites for the use of the Ford OFTP system

  • When using direct OFTP, Ford will provide the data files to the trading partner immediately after creation. Files will also be provided on weekends and regional or national holidays.
  • If the trading partner misses message transmissions (regular cycles), they need to check the setup of their EDI system, as well as the operability of the communication line. The next step would be to initiate a transmission call to Ford in order for the outstanding missing data to be resent.
  • Material Releases and Self Billing Invoices are available to be picked up by the trading partner for 5 calendar days, and the Daily Call-Ins for 2 calendar days.

Ford OFTP conventions for ASN test data

In order to test an ASN transfer, please transmit an ASN (DESADV) with the following content:

EDIFACT DESADV D.98B (virtual file name: FORD.SxxxxxES)
Content changes:
  • Insert AAAAAas Ford plant on NAD+ST segment
  • insert test ASN as ASN number on RFF+PK segment

Please comply with the details in the appropriate Ford EDIFACT manuals.
