Dr. Robert Barber Memorial Scholarship Endowment

Acknowledgement

Established by the Carolinas HealthCare Foundation, colleagues, family and friends, this endowed scholarship for the Master of Health Administration (MHA) program at UNC Charlotte honors the life and memory of Dr. Robert Barber.

As an executive at Carolinas HealthCare System, Dr. Barber was known for his exceptional leadership, creativity, innovation, and integrity. Over the years, he held leadership positions in numerous organizations, including National Guard Association of the United States, the Institute of Management Accounting, Institute of Internal Auditors, the National Association of Accountants, the Society for Management Information Systems, and Healthcare Financial Management Association.

Dr. Barber contributed to the growth and professional development of countless students as an adjunct faculty member in healthcare finance and administration in the MHA program at UNC Charlotte. Dr. Barber was a stalwart advocate for and friend of the program, where he also served as a preceptor,mentor, and advisory board member.His commitment to education led to positions at several other institutions as well, and he often taught for multiple institutions in the same semester.

Throughout his life and career, he employed his unique talents for the betterment of Carolinas HealthCare System, the MHA program, and the community. Carolinas HealthCare Foundation and UNC Charlotte are honored to offer a scholarship to MHA students annually who demonstrate the leadership qualities and integrity that defined the life and career of Dr. Barber.

Fund proceeds will be used to support talented graduate students in the Master of Health Administration (MHA) Program at UNC Charlotte.

Criteria

Recipients of the scholarship will be students who best meet the following criteria:

  • Recipients must be enrolled and in good standing in the MHA program.
  • Recipients must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours.
  • GPA Requirements:
  • For MHA students entering the program: minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.2
  • For returning MHA students: minimum graduate GPA of 3.5.
  • Recipients must demonstrate leadership and service to the profession, the community, and/or the university.

Award Amount

  • Approximately $1,00 for the Academic Year

Application Procedure

Students should submit the following to the CHHS Advising Center, College of Health and

Human Services, Room 103:

  1. Application that is available to download on the Scholarship webpage
  2. References from two faculty that address “demonstration of leadership and service to the profession, the community and/or university.”
  3. Current UNC Charlotte transcript
