Admission requirements: Non-philology students that have applied for and passed the diagnostic place test in English.

Summary of course content:
The practical course includes a number of modules, as follows:
- the grammar module which covers a range of practical grammar topics (the tenses of the verb, aspect, the sequence of the tenses, modal verbs, the passive, the subjunctive, the categories of noun, article, adjective and adverb)
-a module of translation
-a module of text analysis and interpretation
-a listening and speaking module
- a composition module.
The course will also cover various vocabulary areas that the students are expected to study and master.
Learning objectives:
-the students are expected to learn the values of the English tenses and how to use them correctly
- they are supposed to learn how the various aspectual classes recategorize when used in the progressive
- the students shall learn the values of the modal verbs and their correct usage
- they shall learn the rules of the sequence of the tenses and their application in English
- the students shall study the two types of English subjunctives and their correct usage
-the students shall study the categories of noun, article, adjective, adverb and their correct usage
- they shall learn how to interpret and analyze a text, how to produce a correct text in English
- they shall study a wide range of specialised vocabulary areas
Methods of Assessment:
- Seminar activity, homework, translations, reports, etc 20%
- Final written or oral examination 80 %
