SENER Acquires 100% of Portuguese Engineering Company, Engivia

Lisbon, September 6th, 2011. SENER has signed an agreement to purchase 100% of the Portuguese engineering company, Engivia, in which it already held a 49% stake. The Spanish engineering group has thereby exercised the acquisition option agreed three years ago and can now consolidate its position in the Portuguese market, expanding its civil engineering capacity in Portugal and its areas of influence.

The agreement was signed in the SENER offices in Lisbon, by the Country Manager of SENER Portugal, Aguinaldo Azevedo, and the Engivia partners, António Vaz Pato, Paulo Silva and Ricardo Sardinha.

This acquisition has taken place after four years of close collaboration between the two companies and a long history of working together on civil engineering projects in Portugal.

During the signing event, Aguinaldo Azevedo stated that “The acquisition of 100% of Engivia stock will lead to its integration with SENER Portugal and an increase in the portfolio of services that each company currently offers. This operation will also consolidate SENER’s presence in Portugal and increase the Lisbon office’s potential to expand its activities abroad, principally in the Portuguese-speaking African countries”.

António Vaz Pato said that “The integration of Engivia, an engineering company with more than 20 years of experience, capacity and technical recognition in Portugal, into the SENER group, is an important step towards the internationalization of its technical department, as SENER has great capacity and experience in the global market”.

SENER has considerable experience in civil engineering in Portugal, where it has worked on projects including the expansion of the Lisbon metro system and the preliminary studies, basic design and technical consultancy for the construction of the Porto metro system. SENER was also involved in the draft project for the 87 km long Lisbon-Montemor section of the Madrid-Lisbon high speed train line, which included the 11 km bridge over the River Tagus. In Lisbon itself, SENER also participated in the construction of a 135 km stretch of the Transmontana motorway which was awarded to the Auto Estradas XXI concessionary (formed by FCC and Soares da Costa).

Engivia has been involved with more than 550 kilometers of motorways already built or currently under construction, mainly for the Brisa and Ascendi concessionaries.

The integration of Engivia into SENER will allow both companies to strengthen their presence in Portugal and explore new business opportunities in Portuguese-speaking markets.
