NATURAL GAS PIPING AND VALVES

PART 1:GENERAL

1.01REFERENCES

.1ASTM A53, Specification for Pipe, Steel, Black and Hot-Dipped, Zinc-Coated, Welded and Seamless.

.2 CAN/CGA 3.16, Gas Appliance Ball Valves.

.3 CAN/CGA B149.1, Natural Gas and Propane Installation Code.

1.02SHOP DRAWINGS

.1Submit shop drawings for shut-off valves.

PART 2:PRODUCTS

2.01PIPE, FITTINGS AND JOINTS

.1Black Steel: Schedule 40 mild black steel, ASTM A53, Grade B, complete with malleable cast iron screwed fittings to ANSI B2.1, and screwed joints.

.2 Flexible Stainless Steel: Flexible, CGA certified, 860 kPa rated convoluted stainless steel tubing factory jacketed with a continuously identified bright yellow PVC coating and complete with stainless steel end fittings. Acceptable products are:

.1 Flex Precision Ltd. (Westburne) “GASFLEX”

.2 Tru-Flex Metal Hose Corp. “Pro-Flex”

.3 Titeflex Corp. “Gastite”

.4 Or approved alternate.

2.02SHUT-OFF VALVES

.1CGA certified (to CGA 3.16), minimum 3100 kPa WOG rated, ¼ turn, full port non-

lubricated brass ball valves, each complete with a Teflon PTFE seat, chrome plated

solid ball, removable lever handle, and screwed ends. Acceptable products are:

.1 Neo Valves #525

.2 Kitz Corp. Code 68

.3 Toyo Valve Co. Fig. 5044A

.4 Grinnell #171N

.5 Or approved alternate.

PART 3:EXECUTION

3.01NATURAL GAS PIPING INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS

.1Provide all required natural gas piping and connect gas fired or operated equipment,

and provide all required natural gas vent piping to atmosphere. Do all piping work in accordance with requirements of CAN/CGA B149.1, Natural Gas Installation Code, as amended by the Ontario Gas Utilization Regulation.

.2 Piping is to be as follows:

.1 for short connections to equipment – flexible stainless steel

.2 for all other piping – Schedule 40 black steel

.3 Slope gas piping in the direction of flow to low points.

.4All gas piping to be routed as high as possible to avoid possible impact damage or conflict with the operation of the store.

.5Provide full size dia. 150 mm long drip pockets at the bottom of all vertical risers, atall piping low points, and wherever else shown and/or required.

.6Provide a shut-off valve in all natural gas connections to equipment.

.7Identify all gas piping with two coats of safety yellow enamel applied over primer tocleaned surfaces, and SMS Ltd. coil type vinyl identification markers withdirectional arrows.
