RCSCB UPDATE

RCSCB Annual Report 2014-2015 has been published.

Information Sharing Protocol

The National Working Group on Safeguarding Disabled Children is undertaking a review of Local Safeguarding Children Boards' activities in relation to safeguarding disabled children and young people. We would be grateful if LSCBs in England could respond to our survey which will inform our work in supporting LSCBs and constituent agencies to meet the safeguarding needs of disabled children. Deadline for responses is 14 June 2015. Members of RCSCB are asked to complete the survey:

Free Guidance for parents A parents' guide to Snapchat.is now available from ConnectSafely, 2015, to support parents on using the media-sharing app Snapchat safely. This guidance covers managing security and privacy settings and further parental concerns such as sexting and harassment.

The Home Office has launched a free online training package dealing with female genital mutilation (FGM), developed with Virtual College. The aim of the training is to provide an overview of FGM and professionals’ responsibilities in FGM cases. Follow the attached link and enter a few details including email address and where you work. REGIONAL NEWS

Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service (Cafcass) have released statistics showing the number of care applications received per 10,000 child population by each local authority in England during 2014-15. A total of 946 care applications were received in April, representing an 18% increase on the same period in the previous year. This figure also represents the highest number to date of care applications received during the month of April. However it is worth noting that 43% (66/152) of local authorities showed a decrease in the number of care applications compared to last year (2013-14). The NSPCC has launched a new version of their successful Underwear Rule guide to help protect deaf children from abuse. Source: NSPCC Website

Surrey Police has published the report of an investigation into abuse by Jimmy Savile against children at Duncroft School in Staines-upon-Thames. Savile carried out 46 sexual assaults against 22 pupils and one visitor in the 1970s.
