Coaching Contract

(To be used for all PAID COACHES)

This Contract is made between Adams 12 Five Star Schools, 1500 East 128th Avenue, Thornton, Colorado, 80241-2601, and

, for the 2016-2017 year.

1.  Salary: Salary for licensed coaches shall be paid in pro-rata monthly installments over ten months commencing in November of each school year. Non-licensed coaches shall be paid at the conclusion of that sport season commencing in November.

2.  Conditions of Coaching Assignment(s):

a)  Head Coaches are responsible for the care, use and requisitioning of equipment for the particular sport to which they are assigned. They shall assist the School's Athletic Director and the District’s Athletic Director in the development of the budget for athletics. They shall be directly responsible to the School's Athletic Director and the District’s Athletic Director and to the Principal and Superintendent for performance of duties assigned.

b)  Coaches may not make contracts or agreements or other commitments for supplies, equipment, facilities, or promotional activities for the athletic programs without prior approval from the District or School Athletic Director.

c)  All assignments to coaching are for the duration of coaching responsibilities as determined by the District, but never to exceed a period of one-year (school term) or less. The Coach understands and agrees that the Coach shall not have any rights to continuing employment in the District as a Coach following the term of this contract by reason of this Contract, District policy, or state law. Changes to the assignment, including termination of assignment or reassignment, may be made at any time, without cause and without prior notice, and are at the Superintendent's discretion.

d)  It is the responsibility of all Coaches to read and understand the Adams 12 Five Star Athletic Guidelines, the CHSAA Coaches Manual and the CHSAA Bylaws and Constitution.

e)  The Coach agrees to comply with all laws of the federal and state governments and all duly adopted policies, rules and regulations of the District in performing all activities and assignments. District rules, policies and regulations shall be made available for review by the Coach at such places or on websites designated by the administration, and the Coach shall take reasonable steps to review all such policies and regulations which may be applicable to the Coach’s job responsibilities. The Coach shall be acknowledgeable regarding the contents of all such policies. The District specifically reserves the right to change its policies, rules and regulations from time to time as it believes appropriate, and the Coach shall review and comply with such policies, rules and regulations as revised.

f)  All coaches are required to maintain current CPR/AED Certification, and it is highly recommended that all coaches in a supervisory role have valid certification in First Aid. These certifications require annual renewal. All coaches must annually complete one of the following: the online NFHS Concussion Course or Children’s Hospital Colorado concussion course that includes a head trauma/concussion component and emergency evaluation procedures. Heads Up Concussion will be accepted for football coaches. Other requirements may also be imposed as deemed appropriate by the school district and CHSAA.

g)  All coaches must adhere to Superintendent Policy. Failure to do so may result in disciplinary action which may include termination. Please note the Staff Ethics/Conflicts of Interest/Nepotism policy 4130 was adopted in December 2007.

h)  Coaches must adhere to the District Transportation checklist for coaches before departing for away competitions when student transportation is provided by the district or a contracted agency.

3.  Damages Provision: The Coach agrees that if he/she abandons, breaches, or otherwise refuses to perform services pursuant to this contract that he/she will pay the necessary expenses of the District to secure the services of a suitable replacement coach. The Coach shall not have to pay damages if he/she has given written notice to the School Athletic Director and District Human Resources Department at least 30 days prior to the date the coach desires to be relieved of his/her duties.
