DRIVER ENTRY

1.Entries are open to men and women who have a VALIDdriver’s license.

2.All drivers and pit crew members must be 18 years of age or have NOTARIZED PERMIT from a parent or guardian. Please BRINGTHENOTARIZEDPERMITwithyou in case a Notary Public is not available day of event. Individuals under the age of 14 are not allowed in the pit!!!

3.Driver must furnish his/her own car, or have someone sponsor the car.

4.No Chrysler Imperials, jeeps, trucks, carryalls, convertibles, Checkered Cabs, hearses.

5.Compacts are limited to a factory wheel base of 108 inches for front wheel drives and 106 inches for rear wheel drives.

6.A driver may enter each heat but must have a DIFFERENT CAR for each heat.

7.Two pit crew passes will be included in the driver’s entry fee forfullsizecarsonly. Two more pit passes may be purchased for $10 each if paid for in advance with entry. Additional pit passes must be purchased at the pit gate for $20.

8.The 2013 Marion County Fair Derby is a Championship Demolition Derby Association (CDDA) Qualifying Event.

9.We invite you to display your demo derby car in our annual parade on Wednesday, July 24 at 6:30 p.m.

ENTRY FEE

1.Each full size car entered in the Demolition Derby shall pay $30 (includes 2 pit passes)

2.Each compact car entered in the Demolition Derby shall pay $20 (does not include any pit passes).

3.Each car/truck entered in the Figure 8 Race shall pay $20 (does not include any pit passes).

4.Each car/truck entered in the Junior Figure 8 Race shall pay $20 (includes 1adult pit pass).

5.A late fee of $10 will be charged if the entry is received later than the Monday before the Demo Derby and Figure 8.

6.All release forms MUSTbe signed by the drivers & pit crew members prior to the derby, agreeing to all conditions.

7.If paying for additional pit crew members, a list must besent with the completed entry form.

PARTICIPATION: Please note changes to rule # 2, 4, 7, 8 and 15

1.Inspectors of cars have the final decision of the rules. NO EXCEPTIONS!!

2.HELMETS, LONG SLEEVESAND LONG PANTS ARE REQUIRED. LEATHER FOOTWEAR THAT COVERS THE ENTIRE FOOT IS ALSO REQUIRED. Fire suits are recommended.

3.Judge/official’s decisions are final.

4.NO hitting opponent’s car in the DRIVER’S DOOR.

5.If a driver does not hit another car within 1 minute that driver will be disqualified. NO PLAYING “possum”.

6.No team driving.

7.Drivers must remain in their car with helmets onin the arena until all running cars are out of the arena.

8.NO pit crew members allowed in derby arena until after the end of the last feature. This will be STRICTLY ENFORCED.

9.No car is to leave the arena during the heat.

10.All drivers must attend a pit meeting at 6 p.m. the day of the Derby.

11.ORDERLY CONDUCT will be required by all drivers and their pit crew personnel. Any disorderly conduct is an automatic disqualification and the parties will be asked to vacate the derby site.

12.The State of Kansas LAW PROHIBITS ANY DRIVER or PIT-PERSON under the influence of ALCOHOL to be allowed to participate in the derby or enter the exhibition area. Adherence to the Hillsboro City ordinance regarding consumption of alcoholic beverages on the fair grounds is enforced.

13.USE OF PROFANITY WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. Non-sportsman-like conduct may result in the driver and pit crew being barred from future participation in this derby.

14.All protests must be submitted in writing to the officials with a minimum of 5 driver signatures. No protests will be accepted after the start of the final heat event.

15.The derby management has the right to disqualify a car at any time based upon the rules. ALSO, if any individual comes out of the stands and enters the demo arena a DQ (disqualification) will be automatic. No protests or appeals will be accepted. Decisions of the derby management are FINAL!

HEATS: Please note change to rule #2.

1.The derby will consist of up to 4 regular heats, dependent on number of entries. The last two active cars and drivers in each heat qualify for the feature heat. There will be 2 winners per heat, prior to the feature.

2.Any car participating in the previous heats and failing to qualify for the final heat event is eligible for the CONSOLATION HEAT. The Feature Heat is ALL qualifying heat winners!!

3.The compacts will run one heat after the full size consolation heats.

PREPARATION OF CARS: Please note changes to rule #2, 3, 5 and 24.

1.The DRIVER’S NAME and CAR NUMBER of your choice is to be on BOTH FRONT CAR DOORS in large print. Slogans, advertising or printing may be placed anywhere on the car except front doors. NO PROFANITY on car. Put DERBY DATE and PLACE on your car.

2.Radiators and fans may be removed but not relocated. Nothing heavier than hail screen on either side of the radiator. Auxiliary cooling systems may be added for transmission only and must be run through a secured hydraulic line. It cannot be attached to body mounts or frame and should preferably be placed on the passenger side. Electric fans will BE ALLOWED on the radiator and transmission cooling system. HOOD must cover fan.

3.Batteries must be relocated out of engine compartment and be secured and covered. Make sure they are tight! Battery covers NEED to be secured.

4.ALL GLASS (including lights), ALL CHROME (pot metal, trim, taillight housing, etc.) and GRILLS must be REMOVED BEFORE reaching the fair arena grounds. Bumpers and fenders may be trimmed. We Prefer all interior be stripped/everything flammable, but driver’s seat.

5.Stock gas tanks must be removed and replaced with a metal tank no larger than 6 gallons. Tanks must be mounted at least 3 inches from back firewall. Gas tank protectors are allowed, THEY MUST NOT ADD TO THE STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY OF THE VEHICLE TO DO ANY MORE THAN PROTECT THE GAS TANK. NO PLASTIC TANKS. NO GI TANKS. Boat tanks must be in a METAL box. Gas tank must be placed in back seat area in center or behind driver’s seat and properly secured to the floor—no seat belts, bungee cords, etc. If you can lift up, or move your tank at all, it is not tight enough! This is for your safety and it will be strictly enforced. If an electric fuel pump is used, the switchmust be clearly marked, ON and OFF and it must be wired through an oil pressure safety switch.

6.All floor plugs must be removed to allow any spilled gas or fluid to drain out of the car.

7.No trailer hitches, extra weights, special bumpers, special lifts, airlifts, blocks, shackles. All helper springs will be cut.

8.The maximum frame height for full size cars shall be 12 inches in front and 13 inches in back. See Figure A for points to measure from for frame height. Compact car maximum is 9” in front and 10” in back.

9.A safety strap from roof to dash will be required. Minimum of one-inch angle iron or pipe. See figure B

10.All trunks must be empty of debris, spare parts, etc.

11.All doors must be strapped, wired, or welded shut or be disqualified. It is MANDATORY that Drivers door MUST BE REINFORCED—suggested reinforcement of minimum 4-inch channel iron, 1-foot in front and 1-foot behind front door. Door seems may be welded solid. No other modifications to strengthen a vehicle are allowed.

12.You may build a cage from driver’s side to passenger side. Your dash bar needs to be 5” behind the firewall if running a distributor protector and your post behind the seat cannot go further back than the middle of the back doors. A total of 2 bars going across: 1 in dash area and 1 in back seat area and 2 side bars. These may be welded or bolted. CANNOT GO TO FRAME. Do not connect to body mount bolts. NO KICKERS. Material for this cage cannot exceed 4 inches in diameter or width (oilfield pipe, channel, etc). You may have a halo bar but it cannot connect to frame or body mounts or body mount bolt washers. Halo must be vertical (straight up) and not welded to the roof. It may be bolted by using 2 bolts which cannot exceed 5/8”.

13.Safety belts and helmets are required.

14.No tires larger than 15” and 14-ply will be allowed. There will be no liquid in the tires—anyone found with liquid in tires will be automatically disqualified from the event.

15.There must be a fire hole in the hood, at least big enough for fire extinguisher use. Hoods will be chained OR bolted (use one or the other). No welded hoods. If chained, no more than 6 chains will be allowed. If using bolts, no more than 6 bolts may be used; of these, 4 may be mounted to frame and the remaining 2 to sheet metal, but not in front of radiator support and no welding from the bolts to the body. When coming through inspection have your hood ready to open. Bolt dimension maximum will be 1”. HOOD must cover fan.

16.Trunks and wagon gates may be welded, chained or bolted. Use one of the three. If welded you can weld six (6) inches then leave a 12 inch gap. THIS WILL BE STRONGLY ENFORCED. If bolting, bolts must be six (6) inches apart. Maximum of two (2) straps from top of bumper to deck lid will be allowed. Straps may not be more than ¼” thick, three inches (3”) wide (horizontal), and 12” long (vertical). There MUST be a 12” square hole in the trunk for inspection purposes if you cannot see in the trunk compartment.

17.Bumper brackets may be welded to the frame. Two (2) straps per bumper may be welded from the bumper to the frame with the straps being a maximum of 2” x ¼” x 8” long. The brackets and shocks may be welded to the bumper. Bumper shocks may be collapsed and welded.

18.Damaged frames can be repaired with a maximum of three (3) 4”x8” plates per side (frame rail). There must be a gap between plates and they can’t be used to box in the frame. There must be visible damage or rust to justify the repair.

19.No WELDING, BOLTING OR USE OF SHEET METAL SCREWS from body to frame. No excessive body seam welding – clarification: you can only weld a single 3/8” pass and have no added metal. Body mounts may be removed and bolts can be replaced with ¾” bolts and can have a 4” x 4” plate inside of car ¼” thick. Top frame seam may be welded from A-arms forward with a single 3/8” pass. HOOD BOLTS, ENGINE MOUNTS, AND BUMPER BRACKETS CAN BE WELDED TO THE FRAME. NO OTHER WELDING ON THE FRAME FOR ANY OTHER REASON!

20.All wheel weights will be removed.

21.No anti-freeze in radiator-use water.

22.Car/frame may be tilted. There may be a maximum of 12” total weld length (per side) from middle of front door to A-arm, with absolutely no added metal.

23.Painted frames WILL NOT BE ALLOWED. Additionally, there will be no undercoating, silicone, etc. Attempting to do so will result in an automatic disqualification without refund to any party.

24.Engine cradle will be allowed but should only be used to protect the mounting ears of the block. Additionally only a distributor protector may be used. No other cradles allowed. NO Harmonic Balancer Protector.

25.Only 1 brace on rear-end housing (no larger than a maximum of 4” diameter) may be used. Only rear-ends designed for cars may be used and absolutely NO full-floating rear-ends.

26.Filler on bumpers will only be allowed on factory holes, using only the same size thickness of bumper material. Bumper seams may be welded.

27.NO KICKERS ALLOWED!!!!! CARS WILL BE INSPECTED AT THE CHECK-IN GATE AND RANDOMLY THROUGHOUT THE DERBY. RULE WILL BE ENFORCED.

28.Metal may be added after preliminary heat, but addition may not be of excessive amount. Re-inspection may occur.

29.A removable carburetor protector will be allowed for safety purposes only; not reinforcement. This allowance will be at the discretion of inspection personnel.

30.Rear humps can be chained or 9-wired with a maximum of 3/8” chain or 2 complete wraps, per side, of 9-wire).

DERBY DAY REGULATIONS

ALL CARS MUST GO DIRECTLY TO LINE-UP AFTER INSPECTION; YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO TOUCH YOUR CAR UNTIL IT IS TIME TO DRIVE INTO THE ARENA. Car must be ready upon entering fair grounds. IF WORK HAS TO BE DONE TO THE CAR BEFORE PASSING INSPECTION, IT WILL BE DONE OUTSIDE OF THE PIT AREA AND THEN REINSPECTED. A FEE MAY BE CHARGED FOR EXCESSIVE RE-INSPECTIONS (DETERMINED BY COMMITTEE).

REMOVAL OF CARS

1.Each driver must REMOVE his or her car within 24 hours unless you receive permission prior to the Derby. All cars remaining on the grounds over 72 hours will become property of the Marion County Fair Assn.

2.Debris of scrap metal, tires and car bodies, etc not removed will be removed by the Fair Assn. and charged to the car owner.

3.The Derby Committee will make every attempt to assist with loading after the derby; however this will be based on an as needed and available basis.

4.Remember, this arena is also used for horse shows and rodeos. Please pick up any sharp objects, which could injure a horse or rider.

* * *COMPACT FIGURE EIGHT* * *

All Derby preparation rules apply with these exceptions:

1.Driver’s door protection is required; it must remain between the wheel wells. This may also be done on passenger door.

2.Compact trucks are allowed in the Figure Eight only.

3.Wheel base rule from Demolition Derby applies to Figure 8 cars and trucks as well.

4.An approved roll cage is recommended (but not required). If building a roll cage, it must be restricted to driver and front passenger compartment only. No bars through front firewall. Top roll bar height must be above driver’s head as seated in car.

5.If the original factory stock gas tank is located completely in front of the rear axle, it can remain and be used in that position.

6.If equipped, all steering and passenger air bags are to be depleted or removed.

7.On figure eight cars only: (this reinforcement may be used, but is not required) One horizontal piece of pipe may be placed in front of the radiator, to be supported by two vertical pieces of pipe coming off the frame with a support pipe not exceeding 18 inches back from horizontal pipe. All pipe not to exceed 2 inches in diameter. This reinforcement if made is intended for protection of the radiator only, must be behind front bumper in grill area not to extend beyond the width of frame rails.

* ALL COOLERS WILL BE CHECKED ~ ABSOLUTELY NO ALCOHOL ALLOWED!!

*** NO ONE UNDER 14 IS ALLOWED IN THE PIT AREA!!! ***

PLEASE MAKE ARRANGEMENTS FOR CHILDREN UNDER 14 PRIOR TO DERBY CHECK-IN.
