Tommy Belcher Website

We are currently actively raising money to endow a Penn State Engineering Scholarship in memory of Tommy Belcher who was a student at the Penn State York Campus until he passed away, January 2001 from Hodgins Disease. The endowment was the idea and effort of Dan Clune another PennState student.
All Tommy wanted to do while he was ill with Hodgins was to go back to PennStateand get his engineering degree.
He loved PennState and PennState football! I have a few funny stories about Tommy and watching Penn State Football. We were not able to speak or move a muscle while Penn State Football was on. His Penn State Flag that would fly out front of his home only if PennState won. So we knew when PennState was winning by either the flag out front or by Tommy's mood.
So far we have raised $12,500, half of our goal of $25,000. Isn't that amazing! But we need to raise more. To help meet our goal (and perhaps to go even further) to endow the scholarship we would like to create a web site to assist us. The web site would serve four purposes. One) to be in memory of Tommy and tell about who he was and why we all loved him so much and miss him terribly. Two) to make alumni/people aware of the Tommy Belcher Engineering Scholarship so they can help contribute. Three) Actually allow people to make contributions to the scholarship via web by hot linking to the PennState web site that allows gifts to be made over the Internet. Four) To create awareness of the sign of Hodgins Disease and learn more about it.
Here's what I have mind for the Web Site in "Memory of Tommy Belcher"
1. Developing and designing the overall framework/structure for the Tommy Belcher Memorial web site
2. Developing and Designing the home page
3. create additional web site pages that would include:
- Bio of Tommy from Birth until he passed away
- Details on the Tommy Belcher Penn State Scholarship with links to gift giving over the Internet, i.e., can make a pledge and payment to the scholarship by hot linking to a PennState application that can accomplish this.
- Detail on signs of Hodgins Disease with links to know more
The person/persons involved would need to sit and meet with the family of Tommy Belcher and me and learn more about Tommy (to help with developing the design and content) and who he was and why we want to have the scholarship and now this web site.
A fundraising letter was sent to potential donors by Dan Clune, a dear friend of Tommy's that can help as background information on the scholarship.
