Arts Integration Specialist

Young Audiences/Arts for Learning, founded in Baltimore in 1950, is the country’s foremost arts-in-education non-profit organization. The Maryland chapter of Young Audiences (YA) provides more than 9,000 arts education opportunities to nearly 200,000 students, artists, and educators throughout the state each year. The staff, board, and teaching artists of YA are passionate about generating opportunities for all students to imagine, create and realize their full potential through the arts.

Job Summary:

The Arts Integration Specialist partners with artists, teachers and community organizations to meet their needs for arts integrated programming and professional development services. This is a full-time position which reports to the Chief Operating Officer. Pay will be commensurate with experience and we offer a competitive benefits package.

Requirements:

This job is a key role in the organization and to perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • A passion for the arts in schools, arts integration and the role of teaching artists/community artists in education.
  • Five years as a teacher in the public school system, with current certification OR five years as a high skilled teaching artist.
  • Three-five years of experience planning, implementing and evaluating arts integrated lessons as well as helping others plan, pilot and assess their own arts and arts integrated lessons.
  • Demonstrated ability in observing teachers and/or artists and providing constructive feedback.
  • Knowledge of the College and Career Readiness (Common Core) Standards, National Core Arts Standards and/or Maryland Fine Arts Standards, and MSDE's Teacher Professional Development Standards. Experience in project management, including data and budget tracking.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).

Specific Job Responsibilities Include:

Artist Support (This section makes up approximately 33% of the position)

Provide support for Teaching Artists as they develop new programs or are in need of educational/AI expertise in their work.

Manage and support Teaching Artists in creating Teacher Guides and other materials required for programs and marketing purposes.

Artist Allies Team

Update and manage the Artist Allies Team, an observation and feedback system to foster quality among our exemplary artists and address quality concerns among our developing artists with improved follow-up, tracking and artist accountability (assemblies, residencies and professional development).

Partnerships (This section makes up approximately 34% of the position)

Attend statewide Arts education meetings (i.e. AEMS’ MAIN Event, MSDE Fine Arts Briefings, etc.) to connect with district level administrators and better understand the present and future needs of our constituents.

Work with Program Director, Education Director, COO, and program staff to identify potential district level partnerships.

Develop district level partnerships throughout the state.

Act as lead contact for new initiatives and exploring potential partnerships.

Arts Empowered Minds Initiative

  • Design and oversee implementation of the AEMI three year logic model.
  • Work with AEMI Advisory Committees and working groups.
  • Collaborate with UMBC to further develop and connect “Teaching Artists = Change Agent” Course to AEMI.
  • Meet regularly with AEMI Task force and AEMI site manager to ensure progress and trouble shoot issues or concerns.
  • Supervise data collection process and maintain relationship with outside evaluator.
  • Design and deliver professional development for partner schools when needed.

Professional Development (This section makes up approximately 33% of the position)

Design and deliver professional development for partner schools and projects (i.e. Weinberg Library Project’s Summer Reads Program).

Serve as a resource to staff when designing new district level programs and partnerships.

Summer Institutes

Partner with school districts, including Anne Arundel County and Prince George’s County to plan and facilitate summer arts integration institutes, which brings teaching artists and teachers together to collaborate and learn from each other and improve teaching practice through the arts, while reaching more children indirectly.
