II.Announcements & Meeting Time on January 15

A. Consultation process: CL does not have an eco-system for new program and program revision proposals. Until we can get this feature added, sponsors need to notify affected departments themselves and get signed consultations (upload consultations into the proposal).

Greg Cook reviewed the eco system when it comes to new and revised programs. Greg reminded that the “Other Departments Consulted” on this form currently does not send an email notifyingthe department that a consultation maybe or is needed. Becky Pfeifer confirmed that this feature is being added to the Program form and will be installed by next week.

B. Should we move up the start time for the Fall 2016 deadline meeting on January 15?

Greg talked about moving up the start time to 1:00 p.m. for the deadline meetingon January 15. We are projected to have around 60 proposals. The committee agreed upon the 1:00 p.m. start, Richard Cummings confirmed that Hyland 4303 would be available and snacksagain will be provided.

Lynn Gilbertson explained that this was due to a grade change and therepeatability discussed at a prior meeting. This class is for undergraduate students whoadvancewithin this major.

Greg Cook brought to the committee’s attention the last sentence “This course is repeatable for as many times as needed.” This is not how it currently reads in the dual listed 660. He went on to explain how when a class has a dual-listing that the changes made on the undergraduate side is not automatically made on the graduate side. If you intend to change something on the undergraduate side and want it to also reflect the graduate side, you must update the graduate course. Greg then went on to ask if the intention was to change the 660 also. If so, they would have to make those same changes in the 660. Jodi Hare-Paynter confirmed what Greg had explained and agreed if the intention was to see the change in 460 and 660, they each should have their own original statement.

5.1.Change in Emphasis – CL - Physical Education: EC-A License BSE

Greg Cook questioned the Learning Outcomes for the program which do not match up to the language includedinthe paragraph starting with “standard 6.” Penny Portman explained the standard-based rubrics they currently use cover this rationale. Angela Harlan iterated that she had found documents attached within the proposal that confirmed this. The committee agreed that this is sufficient.

Penny Portman explained that the College of Education has a phase 1 or 2 portfolio for Physical Education, a phase for Education and some of the NASPA can take the place of Phase 4. Liz Hachten questioned how the students handle their writing proficiency? Penny explained that there is a writing rubric they need to pass when it comes to their philosophy statement. This is usually taken the first or second semester during freshman year. Liz suggested that this might be moved to the sophomore level so the students are able to take freshman English ahead of this assessment. This would help them prepare to complete their philosophy statement. Liz suggested a meeting to discuss more about students getting instruction on writing, and Penny thought this was a great idea and would get a meeting scheduled.

Educational Foundations disapproved this program revision. Penny Portman explained they had met with Educational Foundations, this is the only license that takes all four coursesinthe pre-professional education block, and this coversChild Psychology and Development. Second rational, is that Child Development has been covered in another course. Psychology was consulted since there is an overlap in both courses when it comes to the motor development course.
