Welcome message to enrolled students from the Mt. SAC portal (before course is open)

Welcome to another great semester at Mt. SAC; in particular, welcome to CISP21, Programming in Java.

As I’m sure you are already aware, school starts on Monday, February 22, 2016. This course consists of both a lecture course and a lab course, which are co-requisites (must be taken together). The lecture portion of the class is on Mondays from 5:00 pm – 6:45 pm in room 17-13. In addition, there is a required co-requisite lab course that will meet on Wednesdays from 5:00 pm – 6:25 pm also in room 17-13. Keep in mind that you should expect to spend at least 7.5 hours per week (or more if programming is very new to you) outside of class doing homework and other required activities.

This is a beginning programming class, but Java is not an easy language to master. If you find that you are struggling with the material, please come and see me quickly, as I can be of help. This is also a very fun class with lots of “hands-on” activities to help you learn the language.

Important: Class starts at 5:00 pm sharp; please allow enough time to get parked and still get to class on time. Students who are not in class by 5:30 pm (30 minutes after the start time) on the first day of class may be dropped and students wishing to add this class will be added based on seat availability. Parking is a challenge, especially during the first weeks of the semester, so please allow extra time to find a parking place and still get to class on time.

SAC portal at http://my.mtsac.edu, click on the eLearning Resources tab at the top of the screen, then find the Moodlerooms link on the page. This should take you directly to Moodlerooms. Next, under My courses, find our class reference number, which is 43011.

Note: We do start in quickly and so make sure that you bring a USB flash drive (at least 4 GB free) to the first class. There will be required items to download on Monday!

I hope to see everyone in class on Monday, February. 22 at 5:00 pm in building 17, room 13.

If you have questions or concerns regarding this class, please email me at .

See everyone soon!
