Seguin Rotary Club Endowed Scholarship
Application Deadline: On or Before Friday, March 31, 2017
The purpose of the Seguin Rotary Scholarship Program is to recognize outstanding graduating seniors from Seguin, Navarro, Marion and Lifegate High Schools. Applicants must be actively enrolled in one of the schools listed above. The number of scholarships and scholarship amounts depends upon funds available at the time the Rotary Scholarship Committee awards the scholarships.
I. Scholarship Details
a.) The Rotary Club of Seguin will award scholarships in varying amounts toward tuition and/or expenses at accredited colleges, universities, and/or vocational education institutions.
b.) Candidates for a four-year college or university scholarships must be in the top 20% of their high school graduating class.
c.) There is no class rank requirement for students applying for a vocational or technical school scholarship.
d.) Our larger scholarships may be paid in installments (annual or semester); the checks will be issued directly to the college, university, or technical school in which the scholarship recipient is enrolled.
e.) Sons or daughters of Rotarians are ineligible for this scholarship.
II. Method of Selection
a.) Applicants will be evaluated primarily on demonstrated academic potential and financial need, but citizenship, extracurricular activities, recommendations of school officials, and other factors may also be considered.
b.) From the applications received the Scholarship Committee will select finalists to interview.
c.) Following the interview process the Scholarship Committee will determine which of the finalists will receive scholarships and in what amount.
III. Special Conditions for Multi-Year Scholarships
a.) If awarded a multi-year scholarship the recipient must maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA overall with a 3.0 GPA in the major field of study.
b.) Students must complete a minimum of 12 semester hours of class work per regular (i.e., fall and spring) semester.
c.) Each year, you must have your school’s registrar’s office send directly to Rotary a transcript of work completed and proof of registration for the new semester (i.e., after academic year 2017-2018, the recipient should have the college registrar’s office send his/her transcript for 2017-2018, along with proof of registration for the fall term of 2018, to the following address:

d.) The Seguin Rotary Club may revoke a scholarship for any of the following reasons:
1.) Failure to maintain the required GPA.
2.) Evidence of misconduct.
3.) Failure to submit academic status reports.
4.) Any contingency preventing the recipient from fulfilling all the obligations of the scholarship.

It is the firm belief of the Seguin Rotary Club that post-secondary education should be available to those who are worthy and ambitious, that development of individual responsibility leading to good citizenship is firmly rooted in self-help, and that self-help and helping others to help themselves form sturdy roots that nourish development of strong individual character.

Applicant will be judged on the basis of:
1.) The student’s individual interests, desire, ability, citizenship, academic potential;
2.) The extent to which, in the committee’s opinion, a Rotary scholarship might make a meaningful contribution to the recipient’s success in college;
3.) Assessment and recommendation of High School Officials (the committee will accept recommendations from High School Officials, or teachers, who have first-hand knowledge of the student’s school-work, activities, etc.);
4.) Personal interview before Seguin Rotary Club Scholarship Committee (the Committee will select a short list from applicants to interview after the Committee receives and reviews all applications).
