ü Principal’s Report- Dr. Sheets
§ Dr. Sheets introduced three special guests.
o Sheryl Gerkin was present with the Safety Patrol. Our safety patrol is the largest in the district and only involves 5th graders. There were 20 safety patrol students present at the meeting. Sheryl requested $400 for the purchase of treats and rewards for the safety patrol members and to replace some damaged cones.

o Shirlee Estell was present with the Student Council and 4th and 5th grade room representatives. Ashtyn Saunders, Student Council Secretary, introduced the student council and room reps who were in attendance. Shirlee requested $200 for the purchase of treats and rewards for the student council members.

o Debby Rockwood, district social worker, introduced Lindsey Badgeley, our full-time social worker, and Laura Romans, representing the Child Advocacy Center. These three ladies will be presenting the personal safety program to K-2 students on October 27. They will present a similar program to 3-5 students in the spring.
§ The next PTO roundtable meeting is this Thursday, October 16 at 7:00 p.m. at West Elementary. The roundtable meeting is a chance for all schools to share events and ideas from their building.
§ Parent-Teacher Conferences will take place on the evenings of 11/4, 11/6, 11/11, and 11/13.
§ The Veteran’s Day assembly will take place on November 11 at 10:00 a.m. Owen Gardner, a WWII Veteran will again be a part of the assembly. Dr. Sheets and Mr. Gardner are on a committee that is putting together a Veteran’s Day video to be given to all elementary schools in the United States. We will be the first to view the video during the assembly.
§ Thanksgiving break will be November 26, 27, and 28.
§ Cookies with Santa will take place December 11 at 6:00 p.m. Pictures with Santa will again be offered but, since Polaroid film is a thing of the past, parents must bring their own cameras.
§ Sheryl Gerkin was awarded the Office Max Teacher of the Day Award last week. She received lots of great teaching supplies! Way to go, Sheryl!
§ Shirlee Estell is a previous winner of the Walmart Teacher of the Year award. We are proud of you, Shirlee!
ü Old Business
§ PTO provided bananas and juice for the third graders during their Achievement Testing in October.
ü New Business
§ Teachers will be provided dinner on all four evenings of Parent Teacher conferences. Magical Night of Giving tickets will be sold in the office during conferences.
§ The Fall Fundraiser brought in approximately $12,000. We receive 40-50% of that total.
§ The position of Volunteer Coordinator is being shared by two people this year. Heather Grayson is coordinating the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program. These people will come during the lunch time to meet with the students in the program. Anissa George is coordinating volunteers for PTO sponsored events and after school events.
§ Amy Walker requested money to purchase TAG pens, books, and card sets to be used in the literacy centers in her classroom. A sample was available for trying out. These materials are part of the Leap Frog program.

§ Jane Root spoke about the 4th grade field trip that PTO agreed to fund at the September meeting. Due to district requirements, the 4th grade is unable to attend this trip. Jane spoke with the Ohio Historical Society and they are able to bring part of the trip to Cedar Heights. The PTO was asked if they would put the original approved money towards this type of program. (We said, “Yes!” J)
§ Leigh Johnson represented the staff PTO committee and spoke about Red Ribbon Week. The Drug and Alcohol Recovery Center is donating the ribbons. Stickers and prizes for the poster contest needed to be purchased. Leigh asked for $35 to be reimbursed for this expense.
