The Author

I was born in India shortly after its independence from the UK. My father was from India and my mother from Britain. I grew up and became an adult in India but have spent most of my adult life in the United States of America. I live in northwest California

My passions are in ideas, in literature and living in the stream of history, living in nature – being physical, living under the stars, transformation and its concept, and friends and relationships

My undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering was obtained from the Indian Institute of Technology at Kharagpur. While at that institute I also obtained a post-graduate degree in applied mathematics specializing in magneto-fluid dynamics, focusing on its foundation in mathematics and theoretical physics

I have a PhD in Applied Science from the University of Delaware, specializing in fluid mechanics, applied mathematics, computation and numerical analysis;the program included a strong emphasis in mathematics and theoretical physics. I have published a number of papers in highly respected applied mechanics journals

As a faculty member, I have taught at the Rochester Institute of Technology, The University of Texas at Austin, and The California State University – Humboldt. I continued to do research in stability and wave propagation in fluids. Topics taught included advanced dynamics and vibrations, statics and mechanics of materials, advanced thermodynamics, numerical analysis and computation, alternative energy resources and air pollution control

I established and ran all phases of a restaurant serving Indian food for a year. I currently work at an inpatient psychiatric facility in Eureka, California

My brother, Robin, and sister-in-law, Susan, live in London. My daughter, Carissa, twenty-one in August 2004, lives in Austin, Texas
