Job Title:Operations Manager - Orangeburg
Responsible to:Operations Manager UK
Purpose of Job:
This is an exempt position in which the employee primarily uses independent judgement and decision making to satisfy the overall responsibility for the operation and profitability of the U.S. manufacturing facility and its related sales efforts. - Essential Functions
- Manages the day-to-day operations of the Company’s manufacturing facility located in Orangeburg, South Carolina. Major duties include:
- Scheduling production on a daily basis.
- Ordering raw materials in sufficient quantities to fulfill actual and anticipated orders.
- Managing the inventory levels of both raw materials and finished products.
- Determining proper employment levels, selecting new employees, setting compensation levels and where necessary disciplining and terminating non-productive employees.
Together with the U.S. Sales Manager, directly sells the Company’s products to a number of major customers.
Negotiates prices and purchases raw materials up to one year in advance of their actual conversion to finished goods by anticipating customer needs and specifications. Ensures that raw materials shipments are sequenced to permit ‘just-in-time” delivery wherever possible.
Creates weekly if not daily production schedules to ensure prompt delivery of finished goods to Company customers.
Approves all price quotations for product sales and all purchase orders for raw materials and other necessary commodities.
Together with key corporate personnel, helps to construct performance goals as well as sales and operating budgets for U.S. operations.
7.Monitors all financial aspects of U.S. operations including the reporting of financial data to the corporate offices, performance to budget and the status of accounts payable and receivable.
8.Together with the human resources consultant, ensures that the Company is complying with the large volume of state and federal labor and safety laws.
9.Serves as the ISO 9000 auditor, ensuring that required standards are being followed throughout the operation.
IV. Physical Demands/Qualifications
a)Requires the ability to stand, bend, stoop, walk and sit for potentially long periods of time throughout the work day.
b)Manual dexterity and vision sufficient to operate a VDT for potentially long periods of time without experiencing abnormal hand, wrist or eye strain.
c)Hearing sufficient to understand conversations, both in person and on the telephone.
d)Must have coordination sufficient to operate various office machines, including but not limited to fax machines, calculators, telephones, VDT’s, etc.
e)Must be physically capable to operate a motor vehicle.
V. Non-Physical Demands/Qualifications
Must be able to:
a)Demonstrate leadership abilities evidenced by the capacity to analyze problems and make decisions often with incomplete information.
b)Maintain a view of the overall business situation when making decisions and setting policies.
c)Professionally represent the Company when in contact with customers, vendors and fellow employees.
d)Communicate complex information clearly and effectively on a number of different levels, both verbal and written.
- e)Operate under deadlines and in high pressure situations.
f)Train both existing and new employees in the various operations of the business in a manner that achieves financial and quality goals including those mandated by ISO 9000 standards.
g)Demonstrate a high level of business integrity, as well as be highly organized and detail oriented.
VI. Environmental Conditions
a)The environment within the facility is clean, well lit and free from extremes of temperature and humidity.
b)Required travel can subject the incumbent to a variety of environmental conditions including extremes in temperature humidity and exposure to pollutants.
