Scholars at the middle and high school level will compete in order to foster and recognize academic excellence. Consortia supporting State Academic Challenge Competition do so in order to insure that South Carolina celebrate academic competition the same way it supports athletic competition.

Guidelines for Decorum During Match Play

  1. No cell phones allowed during matches (turned off & out-of-sight).
  2. Note: This applies equally to team members & audience.
  3. No technology anywhere near match table in matches.
  4. Announce: Please take picture now, not during match. Turn cell off
  5. If an adult needs to take a call please step out of the room to do it
  6. Match player must have hands on/above table at all times (re: cell phone)
  7. No talking (any kind) from audience members (to include teams/parents).
  8. Food, drinks, and gum are not appropriate during match competition.
  9. No one should enter or leave room during match competition.
  10. Each school’s coach is responsible for his/her parents/students (decorum).
  11. Parents are not allowed to coach (unless they are the coach appt. by Supt)
  12. If “host” asks coach to “handle something,” the responding coach is to do it immediately – and discuss it later. {Please remember that, after collaboration, the host has final say. Host Consortium Director is final arbiter.}
  13. Students must know the rules & guidelines. Schools must apply rules.
  14. Enforce all rules during regular season (these are not scrimmages)
  15. The Host School is asked to have a hard copy of the rules and a hard copy of the guidelines placed on judges table for each match.
  16. Remind parents & participants that coaches and judges will make final decisions on questions raised. Any further complaint may be submitted in writing (thru coach) to the OEC Executive Director.

The Pee Dee Education Center has served the school districts & colleges of the Pee Dee since 1967.

The Olde English Consortium has served the school districts & colleges of north central South Carolina since 1974.
