The purpose of this assignment is to demonstrate that you understand games platforms and technologies and can configure a game platform
Scenario: You are a journalist working for an online magazine aimed at young teenagers. You have been commissioned to write a series of articles introducing the readers to computer games.
Task 1 (P1)
  • Your first article is about games platforms. You must write an introductory paragraph covering the time line of development from games such as Pong to today’s online multi player games.
  • You have to provide a table describing the various games platforms, their features, examples and their limitations. Make sure you include:
Arcade, consoles, PC, handhelds, phone and television
Task 2 (P2)
  • Your second article is about games hardware. You must write an introductory paragraph about the importance of the interface to the game and the use of devices such as the mouse, buttons and joysticks.
  • You have to provide a table describing the various hardware, their features, examples and their impact on the game play. Make sure you include:
CPU, GPU, memory, display, sound, storage, interface devices and connectivity.
Task 3 (P3)
  • Your third article is about games software. You must write an introductory paragraph covering whether software can be platform specific or platform independent and what effect that has on the types of games that can be played.
  • You have to provide a table describing the various game software, their features, examples and their limitations. Make sure you include:
Operating systems (OSX, iOS, Windows, Android), drivers, languages (interpreted, compiled, scripted), graphical APIs (OpenGL, DirectX), sound and television.
Task 4 (P4)
  • In preparing for the article you have to connect, configure and verify correct operation of a variety of game systems. You must submit a checklist of actions that you will take and a record of achieving them. This will also be validated by witness statement.
  • You must connect, configure and validate the following:
  • A console, both standalone and LAN connected
  • Either a console or PC multiplayer configuration
  • A joystick or controller and a mouse/keyboard
