Golf success in sunny Somabay – Egypt Golf Trophy Finals 2017
Somabay, golf winter 2017: Somabay hosted the 9th Egyptian Golf Trophy from February 16th to 23rd. This awesome tournament was initiated by the Egyptian Tourist Authority in cooperation with the German golf tour operator Golf Guide Tours in 2008. The annual event established itself in the German, Swiss and Austrian golf scene and is running successfully since 9 consecutive years. Since 2009, Somabay is the location of choice for the Egypt Golf Trophy Finals.
Top-of-the-line golf players from Germany, Switzerland and Austria competed on the beautiful Cascades Championship Golf Course designed by Gary Player, whih is rated „one of the 10 best golf courses in Africa“ by CNN Travel.
Each summer, the qualification rounds of the established tournament are being played in all major German, Swiss and Austrian (GSA) regions with airport connections to Egypt. The tournament locations are being branded with Somabay and Egypt flags, placards and roll-up displays. At the Egypt-themed gala dinner with Egyptian cuisine and entertainment like Tanoura and belly dance, promotion videos of Somabay and Egypt are presented and brochures are being distributed. The programme of the final tournament trip is a mix of playing golf and enjoying everything the destination Somabay – outstanding by nature – has to offer, including relaxation time in one of the leading Spas in the Middle East, a broad variety of leisure-time activities and food delights from internationally reknown chefs.

The golf enthusiasts stayed in the Westin Soma Bay Golf Resort & Spa, positioned on the highest point of the Soma Bay peninsula and right at the center of the 18-hole championship golf course. The beautiful hotel and resort, which marked the entry of the Westin brand to the Red Sea in 2015, is fully committed to enhancing guests’ well-being. Every aspect of the guest experience is designed to ensure that travelers leave feeling better than when they arrived, from innovative programs to revitalizing amenities and the refreshing ambience. With 84 participants the Egypt Golf Trophy trip had reached maximum capacity long before the booking deadline. The atmosphere among the group was as sunny as the weather, yet the high-level course and its famous wind conditions demanded the golfers‘ full-on focus. Like every year, the golfers also enjoyed the warm breeze of the Red Sea, the VIP treatment and an elegant award night. Like last year, the Red Sea Governor, H. E. Ahmed Abdullah, attended the final gala night and personally presented the awards to the beaming winners – a huge sign of how important the established tournament is for the Egyptian tourism promotion in the German-speaking key markets.
