CONCLUDING REMARKS

It is the opinion of this office that the vessel listed in the pages of this report, a 30’ Catalina, was found in sound condition structurally, has been maintained in good cosmetic condition and is well equipped. Some minor present deficiencies were noted, but not serious. Most all systems were found to be well installed and operable.

The vessel is recommended as a good risk for coverage at this time, but the following recommendations (*) should be complied with. Other recommendations are listed for your reference.

Value, as listed on page one, is based on conditions as reported herein, review of listings for similar vessels and by researching assorted published material.

RECOMMENDATIONS & CONCLUSION

Recommendations have been made throughout the pages of this report; the following are a list of “priorities” and those marked with an (*) are in accordance with the National Fire Protection Association and American Boat and Yacht Council’s standards for insurance coverage:

  1. Note several areas of core moisture and softness to the cabin top, side decks and cockpit deck. Keep all hardware well sealed and bedded to prevent any further water intrusion. Note also the presence of several dry air voids underneath the deck gelcoat.
  1. Add an ignition alarm to activate when the ignition key is turned on.
  1. *All engine exhaust hoses should be double clamped at their connections. Renew any un-rated hose with rated and approved hose.
  1. *The water hose to the heat exchanger is in contact with the aft port engine mount and is wearing through. Add chafe protection.
  1. The bilge area underneath the engine needs cleaning of oil and debris.
  1. *The documentation number needs to be permanently affixed to the hull.
  1. Note that the deck plates and fill hoses to both water tanks are disconnected and the tanks have been filled via the fill cap at both tank tops.
  1. Note the evidence of past cabin leaks. Monitor and seal any active leaks by identifying and caulking their origins on deck.
  1. Note the need to clean the steering quadrant of debris and salt. Lubricate all components as needed. Note the stiffness to the gears within the pedestal. Service and lubricate.
  1. The bilge pump panel switch is reversed and although the float switch activates the pump the manual function does not.
  1. *Cull out the disconnected 120V load center and circuit breaker in the cockpit locker.
  1. The forward steaming light and both starboard and port running lights did not function.
  1. The holding tank discharge pump and sewage treatment system were found disconnected. Reconnect and test. Note the strong holding tank odor. Clean the tank out and renew hoses if odor still exists.
  1. Add fresh alcohol to the fuel tank for the stove and pressurize to test.
  1. The Danforth anchor and ground tackle were found in visually poor condition. Remove and store as backup anchor and use the CQR anchor as the main anchor.
