CRITERIA

External Condition: Mushrooms should meet the minimum standards for U.S. #1. Beyond that, the following points should be particularly noted. All sliced mushrooms must be free of dirt or other extraneous matter. They should show no visible scarring, pitting, bug damage or decay of any kind on the surface of the mushroom. There should be no evidence of peat in the container for washed and minimal peat for non washed. No odors that would indicate contamination.

MATURITY/ CONDITION:

Sizing:Sliced mushrooms should be between 1 3/4 to 2½ inches in diameter. Stem length no longer than 1/2”. The cut should be vertical, showing a full silhouette, with a slice thickness 1/2”.

Shape/Color:All mushrooms should be round and white in appearance with no misshapes.

Maturity:All mushrooms should have no evidence of over maturity. All veils are to be closed and the mushroom should be firm and free from excessive feathering.

Presentation:Mushrooms are randomly place in the till. The top layer of the sliced mushrooms should have stems facing down, and hand placed.

PACKAGING:

Outer Case:Standard industry case which affords adequate protection to product, with the country of origin clearly marked.

Pack:The pack size is (8) 12 oz. packages per shipping carton be in a suitable package, with the PEIB assigned UPC clearly visible, as well as the country of origin.If a net weight is stated, each pack/case must meet the minimum stated net weight. Daily weight checks at the point of packing are strictly required. NO TOLERANCE FOR SHORT WEIGHTS. Note: Some Market Areas require washed sliced mushrooms. In markets requiring code dating, product must have a minimum of 6 days on receipt

PALLETIZATION: All products must be received on a 40”x 48” GMA #1 hardwood pallets.

PRODUCT PRECOOLING: All mushrooms must be pre-cooledto less than 38 degreesprior to loading.

TRANSPORT TEMPERATURES: Temp on dispatch and receipt:33 - 38 degrees range, optimum of 34 degreesFahrenheit.

STORAGE TEMPERATURES:All mushrooms should be stored between 34-26 degrees.

Sensitech Temp Tale recorders must be provided on all trucks.Recorder must be placed between 8 to 10 feet from the rear of the trailer on the left wall, no more than 2 feet from the top of the trailer.

All deliveries may only contain food commodities. At no time should chemicals or any other toxics be shipped with the delivery.

PRODUCT LIFE:

Product should give at least 6 days life upon receipt at SuperValu’s distribution facility when maintained between 34-36 degrees.

IMPORTANT:

IF A FEDERAL INSPECTION IS REQUIRED FOR ANY REJECTED LOAD, IT WILL BE THE SHIPPERS RESPONSIBILITY TO CALL FOR THE FEDERAL INSPECTION. IN THE EVENT, THE DISPUTED LOT PASSES THE FEDERAL INSPECTION TO MEET THE ABOVE SEPCIFICATIONS, SUPERVALU AGREES TO ACCEPT THE DISPUTED LOT.

DETAILS ON THE SPECIFICATION MUST NOT BE CHANGED WITHOUT PRIOR WRITTEN AGREEMENT WITH THE SUPERVALU, INC. BUYING OFFICE.

AT NO TIME SHOULD ANY OF THE SUPERVALU, INC. PRODUCT OR PACKAGING SPECIFICATIONS BE DISCUSSED WITH ANY OF INDUSTRY PEOPLE UNLESS SO AUTHORIZED BY THE SUPERVALU’S PRODUCE BUYING OFFICE. FAILURE TO RESPECT THE CONFIDENTIAL NATURE OF THE PRODUCT OR PACKAGING WILL JEOPARDIZE YOUR POSITION AS A SUPERVALUSUPPLIER. ALL ORDERS PLACED BY THE BUYING OFFICE SHALL BE DELIVERED AS DETAILED.
