Summary.The main points are:
1.3.The championships will be run in a Long Course pool and Licensed at Level 1.
1.7. The age of each swimmer for individual events shall be as at 31st December
2016.
1.9. Questions/queries regarding the championships should be directed in the first
instance to the Promoter, Alan Davidson | .
Age Groups are 10/11; 12;13;14; 15;16+
Events are: 50,100,200 all main strokes, plus IM.
400 Freestyle & IM
800 Freestyle Women
1500 Freestyle Men
10/11 year olds may NOT swim 400m IM or 800/1500 Freestyle. They may swim all other events.
All 50m/100m events have their own age-group final. For each event there will be an open final made up of the 10/8 fastest in the age-group finals.
Max numbers to be accepted per event x age-group (no of Heats is brackets)
10/11 / 12 / 13 / 14 / 15 / 16 / 17+ / 16+50m / 28 (3)* / 28 (3) / 28 (3) / 28 (3) / 28 (3) / 23 / 33 / 55 (6)
100m / 24 (3) / 24 (3) / 24 (3) / 24 (3) / 24 (3) / 20 / 28 / 48 (6)
200m / 16 (2) / 16 (2) / 16 (2) / 16 (2) / 16 (2) / 12 / 20 / 32 (4)
400m / 12 (2) / 12 (2) / 12 (2) / 12 (2) / 12 (2) / 24 (3)
800/1500 / 10 (2)* / 10 (2) / 10 (2) / 10 (2) / 10 (2) / 20 (3)
*50m at LAC with 10 lanes: hence 2 lanes are left empty 11-15, and 5 for 16+.
* 400m at CP... 4 empty lanes in 2 heats for 11-15. Etc. Seems Silly.
5.3. The Entry Fee is £4.50 per individual event. Plus £0.50 WOSC fee to cover WOSC Costs.
5.3.1. Entry will be made by the appropriate appointed club official. One club –
one payment.
6.4. 200m Finals
There will be 3 finals for the following age groupings for 200m events: 13&U, 14/15,
and 16+.
These are NOT200m age-group finals, as the ASA Competition Review required. They give little to no chance of getting into the final for swimmers in the youngest age-groups of each age-grouping ( i.e. 10/11/12 year olds; 14 year olds) getting in the age-grouping Final. However, if none of an age-group get in the age-grouping final, then the age-group medals will be HDW, I think.
6.5. Withdrawal from any final is deemed as withdrawal from the event as a whole and
any swimmer so doing will not be eligible for any award.
This probably only affects Harry, being in the 16+ age group, but also recovering from a shoulder injury.I have questioned this new regulation (twice) but had no response.
2.The Programme.
Download the Programme and look through it. It is over 4 weekends from 23th Jan 2016 to 14 Feb 2016. It is a large file, since it contains main tables abstracts from Excel.
You will see that the first weekend is Long Distance events only, at Crystal Palace.
Since Noah is too young, WOSC may have no competitors in this first weekend.
The second and third weekends (four days) are for the 100m and 200m events of the four main strokes. The events for a particular stroke all occur in the same day. Don’t they know that a change is as good as a rest?
It is rather complex. Notice that some finals are run in reverse age order (oldest to youngest). Can you see why? Does it work?
3.Qualificaton Times.
You will see that for each event (e.g. 50m Freestyle 10/11 Boys) that there is a sub-table of four times presented. These are, for this example event:
10/11Auto. / Cons.
50m
Free / SC / 34.50 / 36.75
LC / 35.10 / 37.30
The rows are labels SC and LC. These indicate if the entry time was obtained in a SC pool (25 m long) or a LC pool (50m Long).
You will see that the SC times are lower than the LC times. This is because in a SC pool, there is a turn, but not for 50m LC pool. This extra turn and push-off makes SC times quicker than LC times in general. Most WOSC swimmers will have mostly swum in SC Open meets to get QTs. Hence you will need to use the first row of times.
The columns are labelled “Auto.” and “Cons.”, standing for “Automatic QT” and “Consideration QT” respectively.
If, in this example, you have a SC time less than 34.5 sec, then you will get your entry accepted automatically. This is just like the old QT we were used to.
If your time is NOT less than the Auto QT(34.5), but IS less than the Cons. QT (which is 36.75) then you are permitted to submit your entry time “for consideration”. If there are less than 28 swimmers (using the previous table) in your 10/11 age-group with a faster time than yours, then you entry will be accepted.
If you have the Consideration time, and would like to swim in the event, then YOU SHOULD ENTER.
It is quite likely that most swimmers who have the consideration time will be accepted.
