Independent Reading List

The following list of books has been compiled from the recommended reading lists of the following organizations: American Library Association (ALA), National Council Teachers of English (NCTE), Educational Research (ERIC), New York Times Bestsellers list, Pulitzer Prize winners, college bound reading lists, PA Young Reader’s Choice, as well as other award winning books. They are categorized into four sections: Young Adult, Contemporary, Nonfiction and Classics. Titles with an asterisk * can be found in the school library.

YOUNG ADULT (Appropriate for students in grades 9 and 10)

These are written specifically for teenagers and tend to be contemporary in nature and focus on current issues or the “rights of passage.”
