OCMH OFFERS FREE CAPACITY BUILDING TRAINING TO COMMUNITY GROUPS
-- Community- and Faith-Based Organizations Addressing Racial and Ethnic Health Disparities Throughout Ohio are Invited to Attend Training --

What:The Ohio Commission on Minority Health (OCMH) will host a Capacity Building Training to enhance the capabilities, skills and knowledge of community-based organizations (CBOs) addressing racial and ethnic health disparities in Ohio. Capacity Building is a broad term that includes actions that improve organizational effectiveness. The training consists of two plenary sessionsand three breakout tracks: Organizational Development, Technology and Skill Building. The plenary session topics are Cultural Competency by MACC Executive Director Charleta B. Tavares and Advocating for Health Policy by Former Senator Ray Miller.

When:9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Friday, June 6, 2014

Where:Quest Conference Center, 2nd Floor, 8405 Pulsar Place in Columbus, Ohio 43240

Who:Individuals from CBOs, Faith-BasedOrganizations (FBOs) and Grassroots Organizations that address minority health mayattend the Capacity Building training. The training is free and open to the public, but everyone must register. Paper registration forms may be requested by calling or emailing the OCMH office or individuals may register online at .

Why:Part of OCMH’s 2011-2015 Strategic Plan is to enhance the organizational development of CBOs and FBOs striving for health equity for Ohio’s racial and ethnic populations. The Capacity Building Training will achieve the following OCMH Strategic Objectives:

  • To empower organizational leadership to address health disparities at various levels;
  • To enhance the organizational development of CBOs addressing health disparities in Ohio;
  • To advocate for diversity and culturally competent healthcare and health related workforce;
  • To increase the capturing, analyzing and dissemination of health data regarding racial and ethnic populations; and
  • To improve the technological efficiency of community-based organizations addressing health disparities.

The Ohio Commission on Minority Health (OCMH) is dedicated to eliminating disparities in minority health through innovative strategies, financial opportunities, public health promotion, legislative action, public policy, and systems change.
