HEAR ABOUT A NEW APPROACH TO DRUG RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT FOR DISEASES WHICH AFFECT OVER 500 MILLION OF THE WORLD’S POPULATION
The MIT Club of Northern New Jersey, the Wharton Club of New Jersey, and the AmericanSchool of International Management (Thunderbird) Alumni/ae jointly invite you to attend a buffet dinner and presentation regarding a new approach to drug development for neglected diseases in the emerging economies. These diseases, such as Chagas, sleeping sickness, visceral leishmaniasis, and TB account for only 1.3 % of the world’s research budget but account for 11.4% of the world’s disease burden. So, if you like science, medicine, innovation, and solving some of the world’s most difficult public health issues, then this event is for you.
Ms. Jana Armstrong, Director for the North American Affiliate of The Drugs for Neglected Diseases Initiative (“DNDi, will present an introduction to DNDi and its approach to drug research utilizing a virtual laboratory approach spread across five continents and involving more than fifteen partner organizations. Ms. Armstrong will discuss the DNDi business model, its mission, its Board and funding partners, research partners,and long term strategic plan. She will also discuss successes and failures in drug development as well as the process for the selection and screening of molecules.
