Dear Dave,
I’m writing on behalf of the IAAF Race Walking Committee to seek Race Walking Australia’s assistance in trialling a new idea. The concept is called “Pit Lane” and the background information and practicalities are explained in the attached document.
As a committee we are always trying to develop and improve race walking. Many ideas have been discussed over the years as the sporting world changes and progresses with the times. Some ideas are good and others not so good, but the vital thing is to always seek ways to progress; whether that is from the athletes, judges, sponsors, coaches, media or other stakeholders perspective. That is why we are asking for your help to trial the Pit Lane concept to establish it’s advantages and disadvantages. The more feedback we receive the easier it will be to make an informed decision as to whether this idea has any merits and if we should proceed to try and make any changes.
I am hoping that you can add the Pit Lane concept to your agenda at the Annual General Meeting and ask for Clubs to trial it one or more times during the second half of the winter season. This is an opportunity for grassroots stakeholders to have input into the direction of race walking and I hope the Race Walking Clubs of Australia take this option.
Unfortunately I will not be in Australia for the Meeting in Canberra, but I can be contacted via email if you or any of the clubs have questions. It would be great to hear from all the Clubs that will trial the idea so I can send them some feedback questions once they have decided to trial it.
Regards
Jane Saville
