DUTY STATEMENT

Position:Senior Representative Squad Coach

  • The Senior Representative Squad coach is nominated by the TNA Coaching Committee, and endorsed by the TNA Executive Committee.
  • The Senior Representative Squad coach is also normally the Division 1 coach.
DUTIES of the Senior Rep squad coach
  1. Act as senior coachfor all matters concerning the coordination and organisation of the coaching and operation of the teams within the squad.
  2. Manage and coach all coaches participating in the squad. Specifically, the squad coach is to ensure the following are occurring to the highest levels from the coaching group;
  3. Coaching plan has been created to an appropriate standard;
  4. Coaching actually follows the coaching plan;
  5. Adjustments occur to the respective coaching plans as and when required;
  6. Coaching and personal behaviours mirror the behaviours required by the Netball Australia. See the TNA web site for behaviour expectations. See
  7. Ensure that apprentice coaches and assistant coaches are provided with appropriate development opportunities. This should be included in the coaching plan.
  8. Encourage attendance of Junior Representative Athletes at State League games, and develop awareness of senior representative pathways.
  9. Develop mechanisms to support the return contribution of Senior Representative Athletes to the broader association. This needs to be an expected behaviour of all athletes participating in Senior State League.
  10. Have a good appreciation of all athletes across the squad and provide where appropriate movement between teams in to develop and expose those lower level players to the competitions at a higher level.
  11. Manage the pool of players strategically, that is, maintain a strong focus on Succession Planning across the squad, including coaches as well as Players. All Division 1 players should have at least one identified to replace that player from across the squad.
  12. Support coaches with their own interpersonal relationships. Coaching can be stressful and issues can arise. Manage these conflicts within the squad.
  13. Manage underperformance of coaches through mentoring. While encouraging those who are not meeting expectations, be honest and provide guidance on how to improve.
  14. In all cases be the point of contact for any complaints. This is a critical role, and manage these situations.
  15. While TNA will make all efforts to communicate the Netball Australia’s Member Protection Policy, Squad Coaches are to continually reinforce the expected behaviours of players and for those players under 18, their parents. You are encouraged to act early on any behaviour which you believe to not be appropriate and raise any serious inappropriate behaviours to the Senior Rep coordinator.
  16. Assist in the conduct of Senior Rep selection trials and the coordination of notification of selection outcomes.
  17. Assist in providing information on and fitting sessions for selected players.
  18. Set a whole of squad training plan. This is high level, and forms the basis of the head coaches’ training plan. This will include additional training sessions, coordination of training development, and other training needs which are a cross squad requirement.
