Third Term Worksheet [2016 – 2017]
Grade 6 Subject: Science Pages: 78
The struggle for survival.
Q1: What is meant by saying “the red deer population is stable”?
Ans: The red deer population is stable if its numbers stay roughly the same over several years.
And it means there are enough young survive to replace the adults which die off or are killed.
Q2: Which of the four species described above gives least care and protection to its young? Why does this species not die out?
Ans: The cod is the species which gives least care and protection to its young.
This species doesn’t die out because the number of eggs produced per year is 6 million.
Q3: What connection can you see between the number of eggs produced by a species and the care and protection given to its young?
Ans: The less the number of eggs the more care and protection given by the parents. And the opposite is true too.
Q4: In many parts of the country, farmers drain marshes to get extra land. In these areas, the frog population is falling. Suggest why.
Ans: The frog lives in ponds and ditches, also the eggs are fertilised in their water. So, if the farmers drain them, there’ll be no place for fertilization of the eggs.
