ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF COLLEGE COUNSELING

Germantown Academy, located in Fort Washington, Pennsylvania, is seeking qualified, experienced candidates for the position of Assistant Director of College Counseling, beginning August, 2018. This is a 10-month position which offers an excellent array of benefits and a highly competitive salary. The Academy, founded in 1759, is a non-sectarian, coeducational, college preparatory school of more than 1,100 students in Grades PK-12, located in the northwest suburbs of Philadelphia on a campus of 126 acres. The Assistant Director assists the Associate and Director of College Counseling with all operations of the office, works closely with students and parents, is responsible for guiding approximately 40 students per grades ten through twelfth through the college search and application processes, serves as an academic advisor, and either teaches one course a year, or serves as the testing coordinator, or as an admission officer.

Primary Responsibilities:

·  Writing recommendations for approximately 1/3 of each graduating class

·  Teaching 2 sections of College Seminar for juniors.

·  Helping students identify an initial college list and appropriate college matches.

·  Establishing relationships with college and university representatives through meetings with college representatives who visit GA, visiting college campuses, and attending regional and national conferences.

·  Advocating for seniors in the admission process.

·  Fully utilizing the resources of Naviance to facilitate the college search and application processes.

·  Compiling and disseminating scholarship and summer program information.

·  Supporting divisional and school-wide initiatives through committee work as appropriate

·  Participating in faculty and staff meetings.

·  Contributing to the extracurricular life of the school through coaching or serving as and advisor to a club or activity.

Candidates must have at least one year of experience working in either college counseling at an independent school or in selective college admissions and be capable of teaching a class in his or her chosen field.
