General Information

The Reading Club is for rising fourth and fifth grade students who are reluctant and struggling readers and is designed to improve their literacy skills and help them become more confident students. The program actively engages students in fun activities while developing their reading skills. The students are identified by their teachers and principals and the program is offered to them free of charge.

The kick off for the program each year is an Ice Cream Social and ‘get acquainted’ time for students, their families and The Reading Club staff. This event is being held on Sunday, June 19that 2 p.m at St. John’s Church at 210 North Main Street, Versailles. This is followed by a week-long day camp also held at the church. The program runs from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.(children may be dropped off at 8:00 a.m.)and includes breakfast, lunch, snacks, learning centers, field trips and fun! Transportation assistance is available. The 2016 Camp will be Monday, June 20th to Friday, June 24th. During the school year, The Reading Club meets after school approximately every two weeks (with breaks for holidays, etc) at the church and lasts until 5:00 p.m. We have found that reinforcing the strategies and offering continuous support helps the student’s confidence and enthusiasm for learning.

How to Recommend Your Child for The Reading Club

 Fill out the Parent/Guardian Form that gives your child’s teacher permission to fill out the Teacher Form. Please answer all questions and sign all forms before sending them to the Teacher.

Fill out the Medical Form and attach a copy of your insurance/medical card.

Return completed forms to your child’s teacher beforeApril 4, 2016. The teacher will assemble and deliver all application materials to the Reading Club Recruiter.

The Reading Club office will notify the parent/guardian when:

the student’s completed application is received.

when acceptance decisions are made. Space is limited and the date that the forms are completed may be used to determine acceptance.
