Andrew Jackson’s Hermitage To Celebrate 116th Spring Outing

Mayor Megan Barry to speak at May 18 luncheon

HERMITAGE, Tenn. (May 13, 2016) – Nashville Mayor Megan Barry will be the keynote speaker for the 116th annual Spring Outing, a Nashville tradition that began in the early days of the Ladies Hermitage Association as a picnic on the lawn of the mansion.

Today, Spring Outing has evolved into one of the major events held at Andrew Jackson’s Hermitage, and regularly features nationally known speakers who present on a variety of topics, including politics and history. Previous keynote speakers at Spring Outing include NPR’s Mara Liasson, Tennessee first lady Crissy Haslam and New York Times best-selling author Karen Kingsbury. This year, more than 500 guests are anticipated to hear Barry and enjoy the majesty of the mansion and grounds.

This year’s event is under the leadership of co-chairwomen Sallie Norton andIrwin Fisher. Since attending Harpeth Hall and Vanderbilt, they have worked together on many events and share a commitment to history and the preservation of our cherished Tennessee landmarks.Both are alumnae of Leadership Nashville and the Junior League and are active members of West End United Methodist Church. Norton is also a past board member of The Hermitage, past regent of the General James Robertson Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and past president of the Junior League of Nashville.She worked for many years at Vanderbilt University and Harpeth Hall School. Fisher’s career spanned 39 years in the hospitality industry, including corporate sales and marketing positions with Hyatt and Loews Hotels.She currently serves on the boards of The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee, Music City Center and Centennial Club.
