MAINE CRIMINAL JUSTICEACADEMY

WAIVER OF LAW ENFORCEMENT PRESERVICE PROGRAM

Specification S-42A

To establish the requirements for a Board of Trustee’s waiver of the Law Enforcement Preservice Program for law enforcement officers who have successfully completed training in another state or a Untied States government agency’s full-time Basic Law Enforcement Training Program.

Requirements:

  1. The applicant has been hired as a part- time law enforcement officer or has received a conditional offer of employment as a part-time law enforcement officer in the State of Maine.
  1. The applicant has met the Entrance Standards delineated in Chapter 3 for admission to the Law Enforcement Preservice Program, except the following:
  1. Alert Test
  2. Medical Certificate
  3. Physical Fitness Standards
  1. The applicant has successfully completed a full-time Basic Law Enforcement Academy from another state or Untied States government agency.
  1. The applicant has not engaged in conduct and/or been convicted of a crime that would prevent admission to the Academy, or could result in revocation of an officer’s certificate of eligibility, which is attested on the MCJA’s Background Form.
  1. The applicant has demonstrated proficiency with a service weapon using the MCJA’s firearms qualification course to a MCJA Certified Firearms Instructor.
  1. The applicant must successfully complete the Phase I Online Training Program of the Law Enforcement Preservice Course.
  1. The applicant has passed the MCJA Law Enforcement Preservice Exam.
  1. The applicant will be restricted to the 1040 hours in a law enforcementcapacity as a part-time officer during any calendar year.

Procedures:

  1. The law enforcement agency employing the applicant or having made a conditional offer of employment to the applicant shall apply for the part-time waiveron approved forms and is responsible for submitting to the Director all required and requested documentation, including:
  1. transcripts from the full-time Basic Law Enforcement Training Academy the applicant attended
  2. the MCJA Background Form
  3. the MCJA Notice of Employment Form
  4. the MCJA Firearms Qualification Form
  5. documentation of the completion of the Phase I Online Training Program with JPMA
  6. documentation of a passing score on the MCJA Preservice Exam
  1. If the officer meets all requirements set forth in this Specification, a certificate of eligibility will be issued and the officer will be restricted to working no more than 1040 hours as a part-time law enforcement officer.
