My personal philosophy is that to obtain optimal health you must be overall well bothphysically and emotionally. I believe Physical Therapyhelps with both of these aspects in ones life. The rehabilitation helps an individualphysically and when you feel good physically and are capable of doing every day activities and extra curricular activities with no physical limitations that improves onesemotional well-being.

Work Experience

For about four years now I have worked at Core Care Technologies Inc.Core Care is a durable medical equipmentstore, which sells everything from Band-Aids to wheelchairs, hospital beds and all sorts of medical equipment. I work as a customer representative at Core Care and I record customer intake forms, read prescriptions, follow up with doctor’s offices and insurance companies, collect copays and deductibles and sell the equipment to the customers. Having this job has definitely given me the knowledge and experienceneeded when pursuing a career in the medical field.

Community Service

My absolute favorite organization I volunteered for is theICanShine organization. This summer I volunteered for their ICanBike Camp, which teaches children with disabilitieshow to ride a two-wheeled bike in just one week! I volunteered for two different sections so I had two different kids I was working with all week. Although, this was a challenge at times, the expression on these kids’ faces when they could ride a two-wheeled bike by the end of the week was so worth it and simply amazing. It was so rewarding to be a part of their success and have such a huge impactin their lives. I without a doubt will be volunteering for other ICanShine camps and events in the future!

P.T. Observation Experience

Over the past couple of years I have observed physical therapist in different settings to see what I would enjoy the best. I have done observation hours at the Kennedy outpatient facility, Kennedy Hospital inpatient and St. John of God Archbishop Damiano School. St. John of God is a school for children with disabilities and I absolutely loved this setting and really enjoyed observing the physical therapist there. After observing at St. John of God is when I realized I definitely want to work with children throughout my physical therapy career.
