30 pest plants in total, as notified by two or more regional councils and/or unitary authorities.
Elements and performance criteria
Element 1
Demonstrate knowledge of pest plant impacts.
Performance criteria
1.1Total control, boundary control, and regional surveillance pest plants in New Zealand are identified.
1.2Pest plants are compared and contrasted with weeds.
1.3Impact of pest plants on environments is described in terms of displacement of indigenous or desirable species.
Rangeenvironments include but are not limited to – flora and fauna, waterways.
1.4Economic impact of pest plants in a New Zealand region is described in terms of short and long term effects.
Element 2
Demonstrate knowledge of growth stages and adaptations of pest plants.
Performance criteria
2.1Pest plant growth stages are defined.
2.2Pest plants are described physically at each stage of growth.
2.3Plant adaptations to changing environmental factors are identified.
Rangeadaptations may include but are not limited to – plant form, plant reproduction, physical and chemical defences, plant vigour, root systems.
Element 3
Demonstrate knowledge of pest plant growth and spread in terms of environment and seasonal conditions.
Performance criteria
3.1Environments that best support the growth of pest plants are specified.
3.2Spread of pest plants is defined in terms of the impact of seasonal conditions and environment changes.

Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.
Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
