The CLC Literacy Leadership Team: Leading a School-wide Literacy Initiative

The overall purpose of the Literacy Leadership Team is to lead the school-wide literacy effort.
Purpose and Goals for the Literacy Leadership Team
The Literacy Leadership Team:
·  Collaboratively develops and sustains a comprehensive and integrated CLC program.
·  Works with leadership across multiple units (building, division, KUCRL, VDOE) to develop a plan to improve literacy. This work builds the capacity of the school to lead an effort and is critical for sustainability.
·  Celebrates the success of the learning community.
Leadership Team Roles and Responsibilities
Teacher Leaders and Building Leaders will:
·  Conduct all work using the seven Partnership Principles: equality, choice, voice, reflection, dialogue, praxis, and reciprocity.
·  Develop community principles to support the work of the team.
·  Invest energy, passion, and commitment into their leadership.
·  Demonstrate qualities of a collaborative leader working across multiple units, (i.e., willingness to take risks, be an eager listener, able to share knowledge, power, and credit).

Roles and Responsibilities of the Teacher Leader and Building Leader
Communicator
§  Understands and articulates CLC to others through collegial discussions, presentations, work sessions, demos, or conferences
§  Informs faculty about work session discussions and decisions re: schoolwide initiative
§  Communicates regularly with CLC Leadership Team, faculty, and administration
§  Provides positive feedback to staff
§  Provides faculty with necessary information to facilitate successful student access to the curriculum at all levels
§  Participates in discussions of CLC implementation in cross-curricular settings
§  Shares information about the CLC with the community
Collegial Coach
§  Provides follow-up coaching in individual classes or departments; refers teachers to SIM® professional developers when necessary
§  Supports implementation by providing resources and anticipating potential hurdles
§  Offers to observe teachers using routines and strategies
§  Invites teachers to observe implementation of routines in the classroom
§  Provides positive and constructive feedback
Implementer
§  Consistently uses routines and/or strategies at a high level of fidelity; varies use of routines
§  Works with team and/or department on integration of routines
§  Demonstrates SIM components with fidelity
§  Helps all students achieve
§  Shares success stories, concerns, and failures with colleagues
§  Proactively supports implementation of all levels of CLC
Data collector (analyzer)
§  Questions and requests further explanation of types of data to collect
§  Analyzes formative and summative data to determine student strengths and weaknesses
§  Uses multiple data points (SOL, Hoxie, MAP, SRI, GRADE) to plan appropriate routines and strategies to be used by teachers
§  Plans refresher sessions based on implementation data
Learner
§  Sets aside time to nurture CLC by participating in coaching with a certified SIM professional developer and other related activities
§  Learns with and from another
§  Attends refresher sessions
§  Demonstrates continual growth

Building Leader - Including the roles and responsibilities of Teacher Leader

Liaison
§  Communicates and disseminates information with KU Project Coordinator and CLC Site Leader in a timely manner
§  Handles logistics of CLC work sessions and SIM professional development sessions
§  Distributes all notes of monthly CLC work sessions to stakeholders
§  Actively engages with Hoxie and Ning by sending alerts to reflect current activity
Coordinator of Demonstration Days
§  Coordinates the development and refinement of presentations for Demonstration Days
§  Coordinates schedules for visitors and class coverage for Demonstration Days
§  Volunteers for observations
§  Presents on Demonstration Days
§  Proactively supports all levels of CLC
