Judge: Mr David Bradley

(Newlin Beagles, Scotland)

~ CRITIQUE ~

I thoroughly enjoyed my appointment for your club and would like to thank your committee for their invitation and all exhibitors for their long journeys and their sporting acceptance of my decisions. My happiest memory has to be all those lovely babies moving so confidently and behaving so well. I will never forget them nor will I ever forget your hospitality. Thank you again.

Baby Puppy Dog (11, 2 abs)

  1. BRYNLER MISTER BOJANGLES - Very mature young man with a lovely head and typical soft beagle expression. Tremendous reach of neck leading to well laid shoulders, good depth of chest, excellent topline and tailset.
  2. KEBOLEE BOSS KOCKY - Beautiful, well balanced baby, exceptional hindquarters with excellent second thigh and lovely turn of stifle. Had to give way to one on maturity, but certainly one with a great future.
  3. JOSHBOY POKER CHIPS - Completing a trio of lovely babies. Another lovely soft head and expression with correct low set leathers, plenty of forechest, well ribbed back and presenting an attractive overall picture.

Minor Puppy Dog (4, 0 abs )

  1. HOUNDMASTER COTTON SOCKS - Attractive head with outstanding pigment and just the right amount of flews, correct set and length of leathers, good tight feet. Just a touch long in the couplings for my taste but well deserving his first place. BEST MINOR PUPPY
  2. CAERMYRDDIN WILLOW – Lovely tan and white baby, so mature and with such well developed quarters, great depth of chest, with well sprung ribs. Lost out to one on topline.
  3. CLARION CRAK THE WHIP – Dark tri presented immaculately. Not the easiest hound in the world to handle, but came into his own on the move where he showed off his quality.

Puppy Dog (4, 2 abs)

  1. VAGABOND JAZZ ESSENTELS – Tan and white hound with excellent forechest, great bone, good level topline, moving soundly on nice tight feet. His maturity and confidence won him BEST PUPPY IN SHOW
  2. BEAGELEE CAPONE (IID USA) – Upstanding young hound beautifully presented with good depth of chest and a table top topline.

Junior Dog (14, 3 abs)

  1. BRAYLODGE ST. NICHOLAS – Beautifully balanced tan and white, moving like a dream, an outstanding front assembly with good short pasterns, excellent bone, superb topline and well developed hind quarters used to advantage. RCC.
  2. SEMERU YACHTSMAN - Well matured blanketed tri fitting the standard to perfection.
  3. CULORGAIR VOYAGER - Lovely soft head and expression yet entirely masculine. Excellent front assembly which could have been marginally improved with a little more forechest, exceptionally good hindquarters.

Intermediate Dog (6, 0 abs)

  1. CULORGAIR FINNIGAN - open marked tri with correct and pleasing head and expression, Excellent front assembly and correct topline and tailset. The tail carrying a very attractive brush so often missing in the breed today. Extremely tight feet and a very pleasing outline overall.
  2. CH. CUMIA YU YU - Good depth of chest, well ribbed back, excellent hindquarters.
  3. CH. CLIFTOP TARAN - Smart blanketed tri with outstanding front assembly showing the correct amount of forechest. Rather long in the couplings but with very pleasing hindquarters with nice short hocks.

Australian Bred Dog (6, 1 abs)

  1. CH. BEAGELEE ACQUA DI GIO - Immaculately presented and handled to perfection this black blanketed tri topped this class against some very strong competition. Matching the standard completely, the icing on the cake for me would have been a little more second thigh.
  2. CH FILNOR STORMBIRD – A very worthy champion who just lost out to one on neck and shoulders, but whose rear quarters I preferred. I am sure these two must change places many times. They are both a credit to their owners and their breeders.
  3. CH JANSLINE WOODSTOCK – Another lovely neck and shoulders by no means disgraced by his third place. A very pleasing head and a particularly good depth of chest enabled this hound to complete a trio of Beagles any one of which I would be proud to own.

Open Dog (8, I abs., 1 withdrawn)

  1. CH CEUGANT DILLAN – What a wonderful specimen of the breed. He fitted the standard completely and filled me with joy especially when I watched him storming round the ring so soundly and with so much drive. A lovely soft head and expression, masculine but no hint of coarseness, low set leathers, an excellent neck with that slight arch to it leading to a perfect topline and tailset. He was well ribbed back and short in the couplings all of which gave him a perfectly balanced outline. CC and RUBIS.
  2. CH VAGABOND DINTI – Yet another short coupled, well balanced tan and white hound. Although starting to show his age around the head, his body and movement were still at their prime. I particularly admired his short hocks, his quarters and that lovely brush on his stern.
  3. CH KISLEV IRISH WHISKEY – Quality hound excelling in neck and shoulders, good topline, well boned and moving soundly.

Baby Puppy Bitch (16, 2 abs)

This class is something I will always remember with great pleasure. In the UK we cannot show our puppies until they are six months old, so to watch these babies strutting their stuff was a most enjoyable experience. Their quality and confidence bodes well for the future of Australian Beagles.

  1. BALDEV STARLET – An outstanding baby among the many starlets. She was the epitome of a Beagle at that age and I wish she was mine. BEST BABY PUPPY.
  2. KEBOLEE KROSS THE DOTS – So well schooled and presented, pushed one very hard. Another whose future I will watch with much interest.
  3. JOSHBOY QUEEN OF HEARTS – December must have been an outstanding month for puppies in Australia, because here was yet another start of the future.

Minor Puppy Bitch (6, 0 abs)

  1. NANGUNYAH TIA MARIA – Blanketed tri with a lovely slightly arched neck, excellent fore chest and depth of chest. First class topline and tailset.
  2. CEUGANT DANU – Well boned baby with an outstanding hind quarters for one so young. Held her outline well on the move where she excelled.
  3. DANDANGADALE PHOENIX – Tan and white baby, just a touch long in couplings.

Puppy Bitch (10, 3 abs)

  1. BALDEV FOXY LADY – Lovely soft head with exceptionally low set leathers. Excellent neck and shoulder placement. Absolutely true on the move both coming and going with a free stride that was a pleasure to watch from the side. Immaculately handled and presented.
  2. JONESH COOL WATER – All the above remarks apply. I particularly liked her short hocks and good tight feet.
  3. KISLEV MYSTIC ANGEL – Another outstanding tan and white with everything in the right place. I am sure these three delightful young ladies will change places many times over the next year or so.

Junior Bitch (18, 2 abs, 1 withdrawn)

  1. DANDANGADALE TOP NOTCH – I well remember some forty years ago when tan and white was almost a dirty word with a number of Australian judges in the UK, but today there is no doubt that they are now serious competition, and my winner in this class is an excellent example of this. She is a hound who without any doubt could work all day and yet is so feminine. I loved her superb hindquarters with nice short hocks, her tight feet and her superb topline and tailset. Her movement was faultless. BEST JUNIOR
  2. CLARION QUEEN OF QUALITY – Her head was not exactly my cup of tea but the rest of her, together with the way in which she was handled and presented, more than made up for this.
  3. THUNDERBAY LAST TANGO – What I call an honest hound with absolutely no flaws in make up or movement. I just preferred the animation of one and two on the move, but am sure she will get her crown in due course.

Intermediate Bitch (7, 1 abs)

  1. AM/CAN CH BRIARLANES MANAHOUND PAYBACK (Imp. USA) – A lovely compact bitch with short pasterns and hocks, excellent front and forechest, well boned. Must surely gain her Australian title soon. RCC and BEST INTERMEDIATE
  2. OROBAY BEAUTIFUL SOUL – Yet another lovely tan and white. Soft head with exceptionally good pigment. Beautiful low set leathers, excellent neck and shoulders and a very pleasing outline.
  3. JANSLINE BALLROOM BLITZ – Pretty, finer headed bitch, extremely well handled and presented. In a perfect world I would have preferred to see a little less daylight under her.

Australian Bred Bitch (13, 2 abs)

  1. SEMERU ULTRA AMBER – Full of animation, this pretty bitch almost demanded her first place. I was particularly impressed by the angulation of her hindquarters and loved the slight tuck up under her loins. BEST AUSTRALIAN BRED
  2. CH NANGUNYAH SPELL AT KISLEV – Lovely head and expression, great topline and tailset, I would have preferred a little more second thigh which in turn would have given a more attractive turn of stifle.
  3. CH HOUNDMASTER KO KO NUTS – I am not surprised to find that this bitch is a champion as she has all the qualities necessary for her title, but for me I would prefer her to be about an inch and a half shorter in the couplings. Having said that she is still a lovely bitch with a gorgeous head and expression, excellent neck and shoulders, and is certainly not lacking in bone.

Open Bitch (17, 3 abs)

  1. CH OROBAY OPTICAL MAGIC – I am sure it has all been said before, but what a beautiful hound. There wasn’t a thing I would change about her except possibly her ownership! Thank you to her owner for giving me such pleasure in judging her, and congratulations to her breeder for proving what I have always maintained, and that is so much of our quality today comes from the tans and the lemons. CC and BIS
  2. CH JANSLINE VIVE LA DANCE – A lovely bitch in no way disgraced by her second place. For me she is a touch long in the couplings but then that is how she is able to move so well with such drive from those well muscled hind quarters. She is fortunate that her front assembly is as good as it is and is therefore able to cope with this tremendous energy.
  3. CH MOONMAGIK RAINDANCER – Slightly more compact than two, this bitch is not a glamour girl but on close inspection is so sound both in makeup and movement that she will always be there or thereabouts.
