MOEN ioDIGITAL™ SHOWER AND BATH SYSTEMS
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
ioDIGITAL™ System and Valves
- Is the ioDIGITAL system easy to use?
- Yes. Creating an easy-to-use product was the main objective in designing the ioDIGITAL system. Its intuitive operation and personalization make it extremely user-friendly.
- Is a digital valve easier or more difficult to install, compared to a regular thermostatic valve?
- All ioDIGITAL valves include push-fit connectors that work easily and quickly with traditional plumbing supply tubes (PEX, CPVC and copper).
- ioDIGITAL vertical spa systems require fewer trim components (handles/knobs) to install, and only one valve
- Adjusting the maximum temperature allowable is easily done on ioDIGITAL valves via a dial control. Such calibration of standard thermostatic cartridges is a more time-consuming process.
- The valve fits within a traditional 2-inch by 4-inch framed wall.
- The ioDIGITAL valve plugs into a standard 110v power outlet that can be located up to 30 feet from the bathroom for easier installation and retrofit flexibility.
- How does ioDIGITAL manage the water temperature?
- It uses a thermistor and digital control system to precisely maintain temperature during changing inlet conditions.
- Will the digital valves work with existing showerheads, handshowers and body sprays?
- Yes, the ioDIGITAL system is compliant with all Moen® and ShowHouse® by Moen fixtures.
- Is a larger hot water tank required? Are there specific drainage requirements?
- The Roman tub, vertical spa and shower will work with standard hot water tanks and typical drainage.
- What is the minimum water pressure needed for a digital valve?
- 20 psi, which is a code requirement.
- In the ioDIGITAL vertical spa, a pressure of at least 40 psi is recommended for optimal performance and satisfaction.
- Will the valve fit within a standard two-inch by four-inch framed wall?
- Yes.
- Does the valve need to be plugged in?
- Yes, the valve should be connected to a 110v AC supply on a GFCI circuit.
- Is an electrician required?
- Absolutely. A certified electrician should install the initial GFCI receptacle, but is not necessary for any future upgrades.
- Is the valve compatible with PEX, copper and CPVC?
- The push-fit connectors supplied with ioDIGITAL valves work well with each of these pipes.
- Is an access panel required for the valve?
- Yes, a 14-inch by 14-inch access panel is required for the Roman tub and shower. A larger access panel, 14-inch by 29-inch, is necessary for the vertical spa.
- Does the valve need to have ventilation?
- No. The valve should be mounted in an interior wall to eliminate extreme temperature conditions. It should not be installed in locations that exceed the range of 40°F - 104°F.
- Are there any issues with electricity and the chance of being shocked?
- Not at all – the valve is actually designed in such a way that water is isolated from the electronics. In addition, the ioDIGITAL system operates under low voltage (5v), all current is properly isolated and sealed (through the controller), and the product is certified to cUPC with applicable standards ASSE 1016 & ASME A112.18.1M/CSA B125.1 (shower valves), ASSE 1070 & CSA B125.3 (roman tub), and UL1951.
- Can a maximum temperature be set for the valve? If so, how can it be set?
- The maximum allowable temperature for the valve’s operation is 120°F. Its factory setting is 115°F, but it can be adjusted by disconnecting the power, opening the front cover on the valve, and turning the blue, slotted temperature adjustment dial.
- Will the shower work if the electricity goes out or if there is a power surge?
- No. Just like your refrigerator, or any other electrical appliance, the ioDIGITAL system shuts down. To reactivate the system, simply push the “on” button when power is restored.
- All presets will remain.
- What is the warranty on the valve? Interface?
- All of the ioDIGITAL system components are backed by a five-year limited warranty, and the finishes and mechanical components feature a Lifetime Limited Warranty.
ioDIGITAL Interfaces
- In which finishes are the interfaces available?
- All trim and controllers are available in Chrome, Brushed Nickel and Oil Rubbed Bronze finishes.
- The remote controls are available in Black and Chrome.
- Can the interface be installed outside the shower; or on the deck of the Roman tub?
- Yes. A 30-foot long data cable connects the valve and interface, which gives consumers the ability to mount the interface at a convenient location within the home.
- How does the interface mount to the wall?
- The interface mounts to the wall simply with two screws in a standard two-inch by four-inch wall.
- How much temperature change does each LED light equate to?
- Approximately 3°F in the 90°-110°F “comfort zone.”
- The actual temperature changes in less than 1°F increments.
ioDIGITAL Remote Controls
- How far away will the remote control work?
- The remote control will work at a distance of up to 30 feet. Please note, however, that intermediary structures (e.g. types of walling, venting) may impact this performance.
- Are the remotes wired?
- No. The remote controls are powered by a standard CR2032 3v battery that is commonly available at most retailers and grocers (Panasonic and Energizer brands are preferred).
- A typical battery is expected to last at least two years.
ioDIGITAL Products
- How many presets can you have for the shower? Roman tub? Vertical spa?
- Shower and vertical spa have four presets.
- Roman Tub features three presets.
- How many spray outlets can be used in a digital vertical spa?
- The Moen vertical spa features four spray outlets and a maximum flow rate of approximately 16 gallons per minute (gpm) at 45 psi flowing; the same performance as Moen’s current ¾-inch valve system.
- Does the Roman tub shut down when the hot water supply is depleted?
- To help conserve water, once the valve has been turned on and has been running for 90 seconds, the system will shut down if the actual water temperature fails to reach within 18°F of the target for more than 10 seconds.
- What is the maximum run time for the ioDIGITAL Roman tub?
- Twelve minutes, to prevent excessive water usage and/or damage in the event of overflow conditions.
- Can I use the Roman tub with any Moen tub spout?
- Yes. However, a spout shank (model 4998) is required with select spout models (Kingsley™ – T9211 series, Rothbury™ T9221 series, Vestige® T9321 series, or Icon™ T9621 series).
- Do ioDIGITAL products use a lot of electricity?
- The shower and Roman tub consume less than 20W when operating.
- The vertical spa consumes less than 45W when operating.
- Did Moen develop this digital technology?
- Moen partnered with a leading European innovator in the kitchen and bath industry – Aqualisa – which has been at the forefront of digital technology for more than 30 years. Aqualisa launched its first digital line of products in 2001 and has been extremely successful in rapidly growing its business and expanding its digital portfolio of products ever since.
- Aqualisa was recently awarded the Queen’s Award for Enterprise, a prestigious award given annually to select European manufacturers that have demonstrated outstanding accomplishments. The Queen’s Award recognized Aqualisa for its exceptional achievement of creating an entirely new kind of showering technology. Aqualisa has established a new benchmark for showering sophistication and intelligence in the bathroom industry; leading the development of the digital showering genre and positioning digital as the hottest product sector in the bathroom market.
