Job Title: Assistant to the Human Resources Director

Accountable To: Human Resources Director

Salaried or Hourly: Salaried

Job Titles Supervised: none

Purpose:To serve the church by providing coordination of the daily operations within the HR department and assisting the HR Director with highly diversified tasks in support of the Executive Pastor’s office.

Hours: Full-time, Monday through Friday. 8:30 am – 5:00 pm

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist the HR department in coordinating the various human resources procedures to ensure timely and effective delivery of all HR services, and set priorities for meeting deadlines and balancing work load.
  • Utilize a thorough understanding of the New Life Church employee policies and procedures as well as the work flow of the Human Resources department.
  • Develop, maintain and expand knowledge and understanding of existing and proposed federal and state laws and regulations affecting human resource procedures and those applicable to New Life Church and our ministries.
  • Communicate regularly with HR Director about departmental issues. Usually work under general supervision, referring questionable items to the Human Resources Director.
  • Assist in planning for and participate in recruitment efforts for exempt and nonexempt staff (excluding managerial levels and above); and help to develop and coordinate the use of volunteer employees with other staff members.
  • As directed, participate in the resolution of employee issues, anticipating issues whenever possible, and assist with taking appropriate steps for resolution.
  • Review applications for staff and internship positions, coordinating their processing among the department staff. Conduct new employee orientations and assist with exit interview process.
  • Administer health and benefits plans for group insurance including enrollments and terminations. Serve as liaison between employees and insurance providers as appropriate. Process required documents through payroll and insurance providers to ensure accurate record keeping and proper deductions.
  • Assist with the maintenance of accurate and up-to-date personnel files for every staff member and intern, and maintain accurate HR information system records, compiling reports as needed.
  • Using established protocols and prototype correspondence, draft and type correspondence, reports, and forms.
  • Assist in developing, documenting, and monitoring appropriate personnel policies and procedures for the church. Maintain employee handbook, orientation documentation, various HR forms, and the NLC organizational chart.
  • Maintain confidentiality with sensitive individual information.
  • Must demonstrate awareness and embrace the reality that the Human Resources department is a servant department above all, balancing that role with organizational, legal and ethical requirements.
  • Assist Human Resources Director, as requested, with special projects, events, and diverse tasks in support of the Executive Pastor’s office.
  • Attend HR department meetings, regular all-staff meetings and other meetings as required.
  • Cooperate with all ministries at New Life Church in building a strong team environment among our staff and maintaining our ministry of serving others.
  • Cooperate with the Human Resources Director by performing any other duties when asked.
  • Support New Life Church with your tithe.

Education and Experience:

  • A High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Business school, Associate’s degree or equivalent is a plus.
  • 3-4 years of related experience in Human Resources/Personnel Management/Accounting

Applicant Requisites: Vocabulary, Sequential Logic, DISC Personality Profile, and GiftQuest.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to read and carry out written and oral instructions.
  • Strong computer skills, including familiarity and experience with a variety of software applications, such as: the MS Office suite of applications – Word, Access, Publisher, PowerPoint, and Excel. Experience with email, such as MS Outlook. Human Resources or Accounting database.
  • Strong organizational and office skills.
  • Ability to handle constantly changing priorities and demands.
  • Ability to perform intermediate arithmetical functions.
  • Detail-oriented and self-motivated.
  • Ability to verbally communicate effectively and tactfully at all levels.
  • Personable and helpful attitude.
