Counselor Application

WHAT: Aggies Reaching Out (ARO) is an outreach/mentoring program targeted at 8th graders in the Rio Grande Valley (South Texas) and Corpus Christi. We look to create a mentor relationship with 8th graders while encouraging them to attend college and building strong leadership qualities. Activities will include shadowing students in their morning classes, touring local businesses, small group time,various leadership building activities, as well as fun events.

WHEN: The week of Sunday, May 15th to Saturday, May 21st, 2011.

WHERE: This year, ARO will be held in Corpus Christi and McAllen, Texas at three middle schools.

WHO: There are approximately 60Aggie counselor positions.

Required Fees:$15-$20 (amount yet to be finalized): This includes meals, transportation, and housing.

Important Information:

Applications are DUE Friday, FEBRUARY 18th, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PMin the LEAD cube in the Student Programs Office (second floor Koldus suite 233A).

When you turn in the application it MUST have a Personal Contact Information sheet attached, which you can fill out at

Interviews will be held the week of February 21st,between 10 AM and 5 PM.

You MUST sign up for an interview time when you turn in your application at the LEAD Cube. The interview is business casual; please meet outside your interview room10 minutes before your interview time.

Notification letters will be in the LEAD cube 2nd floor of Koldus on Tuesday, March 1st, 2011by noon.

This is an amazing opportunity to spread the Aggie Spirit and encourage 8th graders to get involved and do well in high school so they can have an opportunity to go to college—maybe even at an amazing place like Texas A&M. This is the eighth year for this amazing program. With your help, it can become even greater.
