6. Water Safety Instructor - Spring Semester

Each year I like to remind the advisors of the class "Water Safety Instructor" offered spring semester. Students often are not aware that it exists, and are confused on how to sign up since it has co-requisites.
WSI is a class to teach one how to teach swimming. Students should know how to swim basic front crawl and some of the other strokes. We can teach them how to perfect strokes in this class.
Students earn one credit and one unit: EH2580 and PE 1580. One minute they are learning about how to teach something, then they are in the water practicing the skill and practice teaching. Class meets T/Th from 3:35 to 5:00.
If students like swimming, and are interested in using this certification to find a summer job, and need another PE class, please encourage them. Note that this is completely separate from the Lifeguard course; they will not be a certified lifeguard, but a certified American Red Cross teacher when they finish.
Thanks,

Judy Fynewever

If you were to take this course, you would get one unit counted toward your Co-curricular requirement (PE1580) and one credit toward free electives (EH2580).
