OUTLINE OF POST
The post holder will plan, lead, organise, teach and coordinate a range of programmes across journalism provision e.g. NCTJ Fast Track and Apprenticeship in collaboration with the Apprenticeship Manager and Director of Business and Commercial Development. The curriculum leader will develop new products and services for the employer market and growing employer engagement in the Journalism sector.
To take a proactive role in promoting appropriate training across the Business and Commercial Development ‘portfolio’ to media and related companies to fulfil their training needs and support their business performance. To maintain employer relationships in order to ensure satisfactory outcomes and identify repeat business.
The post holder will coordinate the journalism team to generate income and business for the College.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Coordination duties
1. To be the first point of contact with the NCTJ and deal with general enquiries as they arise
2. To keep accurate and updated course and student records, including registers, reports e.g. student assessment and achievement.
3. To deal with day-to-day issues and manage control for course provision within the area including assisting with the administration of all NCTJ requirements
4. To monitor student attendance and timekeeping by ensuring that registers are completed daily by all lecturers within remit
5. To support resolution of any NCTJ exams and portfolio issues e.g. e-portfolio access and work with the NCTJ to rectify any issues arising
6. To develop, liaise and network with a range of stakeholders, e.g. employers, students, colleagues, partner organisations and media outlets to increase the exposure and penetration of College Journalism training.
7. To deliver effective employer engagement training that engage students across the sector profiles and ensure effective delivery of journalism trailblazers.
8. To manage the associated staff involved with the delivery of the apprenticeship training, NCTJ Fast Track courses ensuring compliance and liaising with the Business and Commercial Development management structure to ensure high success rates and growth potential of the College journalism sector.
9. To increase the college’s market share in journalism sector areas and improve LMI (Local Market Intelligence) regularly monitoring the requirements of our customers and informing the Business and Commercial Development team of market trends and competitor activity
10. To achieve Apprenticeship target profiles for employer engagement projects, delivering a minimum financial value of new business during a specified time
11. To maintain employer links and effective communication to ensure smooth service delivery and becoming their Provider of choice for NCTJ Journalism courses
12. To support the Business and Commercial Development team in evaluating the provision as a whole against Strategic Objectives and specific targets, working with staff across the College.
13. To represent the College at external, employers, publicity, NCTJ events and networks as required and share good practice, suggesting improvements to College services
Teaching, Learning & Assessment
14. To deliver high quality teaching on a range of NCTJ Fast Track and Apprenticeships journalism courses, delivering a flexible model.
15. To lead the development of appropriate syllabuses, resources, schemes of work, marking policies, assessment and teaching and learning strategies for area of responsibility. To mark NCTJ exams papers
16. To monitor/track/accelerate students’ progress and report any concerns to the Apprenticeship Manager.
17. To actively monitor journalism students progress for timely success and report to the Apprenticeship Manager and the Director of Business and Commercial Development.
18. To implement curriculum and course development within the area of work and maintain a current and relevant CPD file which meets College and awarding body requirements
19. To ensure exams are controlled and administered in line with awarding body and College policies and procedures
20. To participate in the College quality assurance cycle and to complete course reviews and action plans by working with colleagues
21. To lead regular course team meetings, offer and provide support to team members and work collaboratively with other departments e.g. exams.
22. To plan, manage and attend EQA visits and action any points that may arise and ensure course moderation/verification occurs.
Supporting Students
23. To interview students and to take part in enrolment and induction programmes.
24. To identify students requiring extra support and process this to secure the funding and manage the delivery of this additional learning support.
25. To maintain high standards of student conduct.
26. To liaise with parents/carers and external agencies as appropriate to provide pastoral care.
27. To assist where appropriate, with the establishment and monitoring of student work placements.
General
28. To be aware of the principles of safeguarding children and young people as they apply to the role with the College. Actively promote and implement the College’s Safeguarding Policy
29. To be involved in College staff development and training schemes and participate in PDR procedures within the School.

2. Level 2 qualification for personal skills in Literacy, Numeracy and ICT or willingness to achieve within 1 year of appointment date.

Experience and Knowledge / 7. Relevant and recent industry experience of delivering NCTJ courses.

9. Extensive journalistic experience with journalistic achievements
10. An understanding of recent developments in workplace i.e. SASE requirements and Funding availability and Trailblazer funding
11. Successful experience of designing and delivering learningin relevant teaching/vocational areas.
12. Successful teaching/training experience with young people/adults, within the specified curriculum area.
13. Demonstrable knowledge of incorporating Equality and Diversity within the curriculum.
14. Understanding of Prevent, Child and Vulnerable Adult protection (Safeguarding Agenda) and the willingness to increase knowledge. / 15. Experience of delivering workplace training or organising staff development in a commercial environment
