Kindergarten Road Rally!
Dear Parents,
On Wednesday, May 17thfrom 9-11am, we will be holding our Kindergarten Road Rally! The children will make cardboard cars at home and drive them around the school grounds learning about traffic signs as well as revisiting our National Symbols- Mt. Rushmore, the White House, the Statue of Liberty, the Liberty Bell, the Lincoln Memorial, the American Flag and the Bald Eagle.
We will need lots of parent helpers between the two classes to make the Road Rally a success. We need a parent at each of the 8 landmark stations to read a story, ask and answer questions, do a fun activity and possible show a short video clip. We also need 8 volunteers to be “tour guides” and each accompany a group of students and help educate and direct the students on their way around the course. This activity will be lots of fun. You need to be able to focus on the kindergarteners without other distractions, so make sure to leave little ones at home and cell phones in your pocket
This activity requires that you and your child make a cardboard box car. This project brings parents and children together as they work on the vehicle, with the child doing most of the work and choosing the kind of vehicle they want. Any type of vehicle is acceptable (police car, fire truck, tractor, airplane, SUV, pick-ups, etc.). Be creative and have fun but remember that your child will be “driving” the vehicle for 2 hours, so make it manageable and easily maneuverable. The vehicle needs to have shoulder straps so the child can be “hands-free” as they drive around the course. It is to be made from cardboard (see attached instructions) and needs to be brought to school on Wed, May 17th. Please make sure all parts of your child’s vehicle are securely attached. Please do not send it to school earlier than that as we have no room to store all of the vehicles! Directions for the car are also on the webpage.

We need help from everyone for this activity, please sign up by May 5th. If you have visited any of the American sites listed and would prefer to be stationed at one of those stops for our Road Rally, make sure to sign up quickly for that station on the Google Doc.
