MEMORANDUM OF INSTRUCTION 28 September 2015
SUBJECT: Cadet Challenge at Bartlett High School16 Oct2015
- The 10th Annual JROTC Cadet Challenge will be conducted on Friday,16 Oct 15, at the Bartlett High gymnasium and is an event focused on team building, cohesion, and Esprit de Corps for the Anchorage/Matsu area JROTC programs. An Instructor/Cadet Commanders meeting will begin at 0830 in the gym. Events will start at 0900 and are described inEnclosure 1. Each team will be comprised of ten cadets (6 male and 4 females) from each school. Schools are limited to oneteam (JV teams will be allowed based on Varsity Team numbers, max two teams per school). Uniform of the day is appropriate PT attire. Electronic (music) players will be permitted during the mile run only.
- Team rotations at each event will be random drawing (Wasilla and Colony will go first since they will return to school which is in session). There will be 15 minutes allocated for each exercise. At the appropriate time, each team will rotate to the next event until all events have been completed. Based upon the number of schools attending, it is estimated that the competition will be finished at approximately 1330 (see Enclosure 4).At that time, we will conduct the awards ceremony.
- Scoring will be in accordance with Army Cadet Reference Guide edition 6 (Enclosure 1). The flex arm hang alternative event only pertains to females who believe they can score better than doing regular pull ups. The fastest time/number will be used as a tie breaker in each event, should it become necessary. For team/individual it will be curl ups.
- Awards will be given to the top three teams overall, and the top three teams in each event, as well asOverall Male and Overall Female.
- All food needs to be coordinated by eachSchool’s JROTC SAI/AI’s (SAMs Club is across the street). Final cost of trophies and plaques will be determined once a firm commitment has been made (no refunds or changes), expect $45 per team, hopefully less though. All money will be collected the morning of the event; please give to 1SG Harmon.
- Please submit input no later than 9 Oct 2015, your team information (enclosure 3,Format). If you have any questions or concerns please let me know at your earliest convenience.
- This event is to focus on teamwork, camaraderie, and build a strong sense of pride and accomplishments in all participants. Encourage cadets from all schools to push each other. Create a drive to excel and persevere under physical stress.
